When you bend your aluminium box section, does it deform on the curves, or does it keep its square section shape? its difficult to see from the photos......

Hi Paul,
as far as I can see, the tube deforms very little, so I did not see by eye, because of the square shape.
Tried it before with an anodized tube and the anodized "skin" broke.
The radius is 300 mm and the tube 20 x 20 x 2 mm.

your curves look good with very little distortion, an old trick is to fill tube loose with sand to prevent kinking, not a problem for you from looks
If it ain't broke, fix it till it is

I hope, you are not talking about my curves, did I ever post a pic of my body ???

I use a wooden hightech bending machine for deforming my tubes cold and only with my hands !

No flames, no sand, no hydraulics !

In the last days I worked every second day in the garage, so a little progress took place.

First I bought a couple of steel angles, bent them flat and got 24 predrilled connectors to cleco my frame together for welding.

The left part is the frame of the box, the right represents the bottom frame.

After correcting the curves of the U-frames in my pattern, I cut all to the same height of 930 mm.
That will give me a headroom of 2 inches sitting on my folding matress.
Then I drilled the profiles to connect them via flat angles and my clecos and set the first half dome onto my bottom frame.

And then the same with the stern and now it's time to test the headroom inside my iron tent.

Here you can see the pattern, I use to be sure that every tube and bow has the same shape.

Image

Today I bent the rest of my cage and clecoed all together (ran out of clecos)

Five hours of bending, sawing, deburring the tubes, drilling holes and putting all together !

Ta-Dah !

The cage is ready for welding !
Behind the wheel on the right side of the trailer will be the door to step in.
On the left side of the trailer a big door (140 x 63 cm) can be opened up too, if I want to see the sea from my bed or build later a slide out or anything similar.

Now I could ask, wether someone welds the cage for me and how much that will cost.
When the cage is welded, I can begin with the door frames.

Thank you guys :D

The door on the right side will be a gullwing door.
On the left side a simple flat door opening up as a sun shade to sit below.

Just curious, at the bottom edge where the wall aluminum will meet the trailer, will that line of rivets be drilled and wall overlap, or does the top have to be able to lift off, as it is a load on trailer because of your euro standards ?
Man if you pull it off { which I'm certain you will } the radii for the al skin, you are going to have one stunning trailer.
Any windows planned?
You have set the bar high on this build, and building at this scale is much more difficult then at full size.
Awesome
