If t was in the shop with no temperature difference, there is no good explanation why this happened. What is red glue?

Wow Michael, that is a tough one to take. At least you have a good idea on how to make it work out for you. Your build is such an absolute thing of beauty.

OP... I won't say there wasn't any temp difference, but what change there was seems insignificant. So, I guess it's red glue time... which is a type of contact adhesive made for Filon.
And Dave... Thanks for the good word. I just like her better when things go right!

Michael, that is just plain weird. I've never seen anything like it & can't wrap my head around what could have caused it to happen. It just doesn't make sense to me to see how it puckered like that. Sorry you ran into it, but I think the contact cement will work out OK for the bond. Looks like you're going to need a pretty large slip sheet for the drop to center it properly. Not sure I'd be looking forward to gluing a sheet that size in place.

Do you have a plan for dropping it & some kind of sticks or a barrier sheet to make sure alignment is correct before it's spotted & down? Working from the center to the outside, to keep the air bubbles out? Is the red glue a solvent base or water base? Sprayer or roller for application? I guess two or three 16'-2x4's on the roof (length-wise) would keep it supported until it can be spotted and allowed to make the initial contact for the bond. Or maybe some long lengths of clean full-round molding (1 3/8" closet rod) would help support it until you can get it placed exactly where it needs to go. They would roll around a bit prior to the spotting.

At least you found out about it before driving down the road, having it finished, painted & trimmed out, and then jumping out of the truck at a camp site for the night. Still can't figure this one out. Chin up bud, better days are just around the corner!

Well the good thing is you caught it early, and your backwards steps to recover did not result in horrendous damage or significant loss. It could have been much worse.

Re: things going right the first time, sometimes I feel like my whole build is an experiment. Edison didn't get it right the first time, either, but he did get it right eventually.

You're right. It really is just one big experiment. And thank you for the glass half full...

I really think it's just too big to drop, Noseoil. I don't know how I'll do it yet. But definitely start in the middle and work towards the ends. Maybe keep it in a roll and spray both sides as we go. We learned that from the first go of it. What we can't get over is the crazy weird cross-hatch pattern. If you put a tape measure on it, the diamonds were all 100% identical in size. I think you're right Dale, it somehow got a twist to it as the glue went off. It's very strange and I can't wrap my mind around this one either...

Could you put some sort of backing paper or plastic sheet over the top of the contact adhesive doubled over. Line the filion up ontop of tbis tben Get someone at one at the front while 2 of you are smooth g the Filion down onto the glue the pull the backing paper out slowly from the front.
Kinda how you apply big stickers or contact
I've just finished installing some lamanex on my build with contact adhesive and got the sheet on the shelf a bit out, no fun to peel off and restick

Good idea Dale. The problem is it's such a large sheet...

How did your project turn out?

Nice. I noticed you haven't posted in a while so I was wondering. You ever feel like there's just no end? I just want to go camping!

Lol Yea i enjoy the build process most of the time but frustrating when I always seem to be waiting on parts.
And yes I can't wait to get out and use it!.
I'm off to Singapore and Thailand in a few weeks so money's a bit tight!
