I can't believe you are building the holy grail of teardrops. It has been kicked around on the site alot but nobody has ever attempted it to my knowledge.
Seeing from the work you have done this is going to be awesome.
I'm really enjoying watching this build.

To be fair, I would say Del's Roswell is extremely close to the original sketches.

Dandan, this is going to look stunning - and what would look even better would be to just polish the aluminium - a shiny, nay glowing, Roswell would be perfect. Wouldn't take more than a year with a polisher.......

Yes Dels build is impressive and I love that trailer. Close but no potato. This one looks like it will be close the infamous drawing.

roswell build

Postby dandan » Wed Nov 26, 2008 9:35 pm

its like i said to Del,
he was the first up the mountain, im just following !
Del's jellybelly build log has been a great help. Many thanks for shareing it with us.

Andrew's time, development work & CAD skills are allowing Del, myself & others to have a
crack at building the biggest head turner since Lady Godiva got on a horse !

planning on a dull polished finish with about 5 coats of cellulose lacquer to protect it.
we will see.

if this was really a mountain climb, the stage im at is putting my boots on.
will upload a progress report after the next session, hopefully thurs pm.

Best rgds Dan. :)

roswell build

Postby dandan » Wed Nov 26, 2008 10:21 pm

Hi Mike,
that would be great if you could do that for me.

would you believe i only got interested in this when i saw a little guy pulling
off the Great Dorset Steam Fair campsite August this year ?
i was so gob-smacked with it i asked the owner if i could take a photo of it.
he said it was a teardrop trailer & so i looked it up on google.
my trailer tent was on its last legs, needed a replacement & thaught a
teardrop could be it.
looked at lots of designs & found The Roswell.
E-mailed Andrew & he pointed me to Dels build here on T&TTT.

its strange how things develop eh?

Many thanks, Dan.

only 1 hour on it today.
made some body ribs out of the off-cuts.
allways s good idea to remove the plastic protective before the welding.
wondered why it was a bit difficult to get it to run.

just getting things lined up & its time 2 pack-up again.
Image
may not get on it again for a few days.
watch this space!

roswell build

Postby dandan » Fri Nov 28, 2008 1:01 pm

sneeked 2 & 1/2 hours on it today.
i decided not to tack it together without putting a swage 15mm in from the edges.
this will catch & absorb any distortion from welding the open corner joints.
Image
this is what the end panel looks like at the top.
will flatten the seam which joins to the roof.
Image
probably wont get on it again till next thurs/fri. :)

Those ribs look amazing - though I can't for the life of me work out what exactly I'm looking at. Is it two angles with lots of braces welded between them?
