Hi Frank, yes its a V4 and been changed round just a little bit!!!, its got electric power steering, electric windows and central locking, oh and Rover alloy wheels.
Somewhere around here Ive got something that tells you how to work the gas strut thing out, might try VW Transporter rear door struts, they look big and strong enough.
If you can please put some photos up of that ledge and channel it may work better than what I have in mind. Got to try and put the edge back on the hatch lid after I inadvertantly cut it off with me router   .

Great looking build and just down the road from me. I'm still in the planning stage and had originally planned on using aluminium sheeting to clad the exterior. I'm now interested in the plastic cladding that you are doing. Which product did you get from Rockwell? Is it the hygiene board?

I think the white will make it look more modern.

Hi Tlag, it is the 2.5mm hygiene board, they are very helpful at Rockwells. Might be having a go at fitting this weekend :NC ., got to cover it with epoxy resin first.

Hi Chris

I got a bit lost getting the photos loaded on the post. I have just put seven photos on my gallery. Getting a bit late at night to think too hard.
We are off to Cambridge (NZ) in the morning for my cousins, "I'm not dead party!" We are taking our bed on wheels.

Cheers Frank.

Hi Frank, loving the car and all the photos. The photo showing the hinges and ally strips is how I intend to do mine but with the addition of a neoprene strip covering them and two ally strips holding it down so when it is closed it is pulled across the joint and hopefully make it waterproof. Also like the awning, its similar to what I want to get for mine .
Is that your garage??, its bigger than our house, there again a large shed is bigger than our house :D :D .

Chris

Also like the idea of an "Im not dead party", think I should have had a few of them :D .

Hi Chris
The awning is a RV Shade, designed to fit over the back of a van or 4wd. It works quite well on the side of our TD but wont fit over the open hatch.
We got ours from Anaconda in Australia, as the only ones we could find in New Zealand, didn't have side panels. We have just bought another one, and my wifes cousin is bringing it over with her soon. Pastage from Ausie is rather high.
We do have quite a good size shed. It is 16m x 12m, 192sq m. (52'6" x 39'4"). We lived in it for 3- 1/2 years until our house was ready to move into. Us in one half and seven cars in the other half. With bare steel walls and no insulation we cooked in summer and froze in winter. We had a garden shed inside for a bedroom, which was, and still is, known as the bed shed. This is where the "Sheddie" name came from.
Frank.

Thats what Ive done today, used a biscuit joiner and stuck some bits onto the sides of the hatch,Ive used 12mm ply as it is having ally angle on the inside to hold the seal and to strengthen it. Also gave it a quick coat of epoxy resin the other evening and will give it another one evening this week if this great weather holds out :worship:

It has a bit of an overhang on the edges but I will use a router with a flush trim bit and trim it next week( its what I should have done in the first place!!!!!)

Hi Chris,
I see you have sorted the hatch issue. That is looking good. I did a similar thing with the side walls at the back. I had cut them out, sat them in place, then decided they were wrong so I cut off about 50mm around the rear curve. Then I realised that I did need the step up at the top after all. Fortunately I had cut them off with a jig saw, so there was a very narrow cut line and I was able to glue them back on. Unfortunately I don't have a biscuit jointer so I routed in some ply blocks on the sides, glued and screwed. That did the trick.
Cheers Frank.

The hatch is well sorted now thanks Frank. Ive put the wiring into the hatch for the rear lights, given the whole body another coat of epoxy resin( this time I put it on with a 4 inch varnish roller not a shovel :D :D ). I went to one of our suppliers the other day and scrounged two pieces of Maple hardwood and have put them on the sides to cover up the wooden underframe, they have been screwed and glued and sealed and will support the cladding sheets when I put them on.
I have managed to clad the door and fit the window in and tonight have made an extension to the lock for the extra thickness of the door . I have also ordered the aluminium to do all the edges and I am putting a piece of checker plate on the front(500mm high) to stop stones from hitting the plastic sheets.

I hope the weather on Friday is good as its the first Friday for about 7 weeks that I will have all day on it and Im hoping the aluminium will turn up.
The door looks blue but that is the protective covering which I am leaving on till the door goes on.

Some of it is wrong but I think I can work with it.

Got to go to the suppliers tomorrow to get more glue and another joint strip and I will probably have all the outside covered, just hope wifey will let me carry on tomorrow :D .

i was lucky that I was pushed for time on the build and my wife was helping.
Time was getting that short toward the end that I even let her use power tools. :frightened:
What are you finishing over the top with, is it the same as the sides, or alloy?
Keep up the pace, you are going well.
Frank :ok:

Thanks Frank,(you let your wife use power tools???, brave man), done the top etc today with the same as the sides, had to make use of this great weather we are having at the moment :D .
It is now looking like this,

Had a major moment today when I cut the piece for the rear roof I cut it off the END of the last sheet instead cutting the sheet in half then cutting it off the width( I know what Im on about :) ), so I ended up putting some ally checker plate on the back as well :D . It dont look too bad, Im happy with it anyway.

Had another good day today, it will be the last for a few weeks. Got the marker lights on (apart from the front right, one of the wires snapped off), fitted the lights etc onto the hatch, fitted the awning light and fitted most of the aluminium edges on, just got to finish the hatch off and the radius`s on the front. Its starting to look like I imagined it to be :D :D .

Noticed the second photo looks `bent`, I think its because I resized it, the back end is straight really
