Thought if that as an idea too Rian. I will have to look into what stains are available. I dont want non of that water based stuff though, ive used it before, and not had great results.

Bloody heck !!

Now you tell me, I have used water based stuff internally since the start, in the hope of not needing more protection, than stains etc. Also quicker drying of course.

Just how bad is it then ?

I used ships varnish on the exterior ply surfaces as they will get painted in the end, with Dulux enamel and a brush of course.
The roof is being skinned in ally, so not worried about it.
Greetings from England.

Hoping to get it all done in time.

I used it on an old kitchen table, trying to stain it to match the kitchen units, but it wouldnt cover evenly. Was like trying to water paint over a wax crayon picture, even though i had sanded it back deeply to get rid of the ruts and marks. Was a few years ago, so modern products are probably a lot better

Well ive just tried to stain some of the wood in the galley to the colour of the darkest wood used, and what a total f*** up it looks. I couldnt get any stain that wasnt water based, so i gave it another go. The nearest colour to the darkest wood is a rich oak, so after a couple of coats on the lightest wood, we now have what can only be described as BROWN :x

So i now need to get some paint. The outside of the tear will be painted in a Poppy red, so i need some ideas for the galley colouring please guys

Hopefully this copy/paste will work, as ive had to get a mate to post the pic as my puter wont accept my photos at the moment

Any way here is my freebee caravan, which i will use as a donor for the build. Its a bit of a shed and is a bit damp, but the electric hook-up, seat cushions/mattress,lights and a few other bits will come in handy, and the fridge and sink/cooker/drainer unit will go on to another build
Then the body will be stripped off (aluminium) and weighed in for scrap, and the aluminium chassis will be used for either my next tear or a cargo trailer build.
So far with little gems like this i am on target for keeping this build below the £250 mark, which is what it cost to build The Scavenger last year

You can't go far wrong with classic cream Steve. I think it looks good with anything and everything.

Loving the new donor....the question is ..... Are you going to have change left after building your #2 scavenger, from the proceeds of the sold items

Once number 2 is up and running, number 1 will be sold to either fund number 3 or a replacement tug. which will probably be a tranny van (maybe a 4x4 county).
I think you could be right on the cream paintwork, it will give it the classic look and cream paint will be cheaper than any fancy colour scheme

Ive had to move it to behind the back of the garage now. Out gert got back of her jollidays and hi the roof when she saw it , reconing it was more of an eyesaw than all the junk that i had spent hours moving into it.
so now i have to crack on and use up the stored wood in it and then dismantle it :x With a bit of luck though the grass will now grow high enough to hide it as i cant open the shed door because of it to get the mower out

Well ive managed virtually the whole day in the garage today, She who moans and cant even be bothered to even say "Thats nice dear" isnt talking to me, so ive been building
Started by cutting the side for the lecky hook up
Image
Then had an hour or two making the cupboards for the love lounge
Image
I even managed to get the cut outs done for the stereo and light switches
Image
And make sure the TV fitted into its slot

Some times i wonder why i bother

Up early again today to trawl the carboot sale for bargains. Caught some right numpties out and managed to spend under a tenner
First of blagged some woman that the hook up cable she had had no pat test label and she could be liable if i died fron electric poisoning = result, 20m cable £5
Next a set of caddies for a quid, didnt haggle cos it was a charity stall. Then 5 litres of undercoat for a quid, and the same price for the box of screws and clamp (well you can never have enough)
Image
Then 50p for 10m of coving trim, slight seconds, but enough to do what i need it for
Image
And here is a pic of the headboard locker i built last night

Some great finds

The trailers taking shape fella,
I've got one of them lockers too :) :) but the lid's split into three so you don't have to move everything off the top to get in it.

Managed to get a couple of speakers installed into the headboard locker. They were a pair left from an old stereo system. Luckily the faces came off, but I had to cut them down a bit to fit. The grills are metal, so should be ok against the pillows
Will have to wire the stereo system up to see if it need the locker porting to let the sound out
Still got to find somewhere for the sub and rear speakers

Feel free to comment, its boring otherwise!!
