You're not the only one doing that. But in my case, I was kinda forced into that route due to my very small tow vehicle.

Thanks for comments....

Well We have been busy, but been doing some little things here and there... Son is getting married and had no clue what all is involved in the parent side. We decided that my daughter is not going to get married.

Here are a few pics over last couple months. Gluing up the sides, installing the ceiling, and assembly

A test hatch? As in, "This won't be the actual hatch; I'm simply building it as proof of concept"? Wish I'd had that luxury. I also wish I hadn't drilled a hole in my left thumb, but that's all water under the bridge at this point. 8)

BTW, the pencil sharpener is a nice touch. I recommend keeping it in the final build.

Yes, leave the pencil sharpener. I bet a person could make it into a porch light.

When you make a mistake it becomes a test hatch. Actually got impatient and bought some box store plywood. Need to make a run for some good ole MDO.

The pencil sharpener is my prized possession. Nothing like an old school sharpener. Hmm wife is school teacher. Might be a good theme. Wonder how water proof blackboard paint is? Call it "after school detention"

Well I’m back… It has been a roller coaster summer. My oldest son got married, middle son totaled out the expedition, and father-in-law passed away. If you smoke please quit, there is no better time than now, it’s not pretty when you’re forced to quit. Man it has been HOT!!! We are breaking records 70 days over 100 degrees, some days were up to 114. My teardrop is missing me.

I have been spending a lot of time working on controlling saw dust and looks like I have it under control. The Harbor Freight Dust Collector is Rocking! Still the best woodworking item I’ve purchased under $140. I have the pieces cut to convert it to a two stage but still researching going to 6â€

Wow. that is looking nice. Sorry about the tribulations of the summer. At least some cooler weather will get there, eventually.

Kevin,

That margarita machine is a perfect fit! Are you going to match the colors for the exterior of your teardrop?

Of course I'm a little biased, but I like how you changed to the arched top doorway. I think it is one of those design elements that adds character.

How are you liking the cooler weather? The other night I was working outside and it felt a little chilly. When I checked the temperature, it was 82 degrees. I guess after the 100+ degrees weather we've been having, 82 is chilly - great building weather though.

Take care,
Tom

Ratkity... after a few comments online and from friends, my daughter has turned the pencil sharpener into a where's Waldo deal. I keep telling her it's something you need to hide not a center piece. At least she is having fun and hanging with dad.

Tom... This is where I'm starting to get hate mail. We were/are/going/not going to paint instead of staining the wood. I started to assemble because of paint but now revisiting stain. I was messing around with transtint Monday and came up with a nice dark red mahogany. I don't know what to do.

The weather is awesome, I actually worked few days in long sleeve shirt till I adjust.

Input is always accepted

Thanks David...

Working on my doors and drawers. I have really been dealing with burning on my cuts, time to sharpen. Little extra sanding after the routing that usually gets most of the burns once the doors are glued up.

Image

Now that the Rails and Stiles are machined, time to get the panels done. The bits I use were purchased from MLCS and have done hundreds of doors. They have been very reliable, just keep them clean and oiled. I usually just touch them up with Hone Knife before each use.

Image

I have the wood cut for the panels, Although the pieces were wide enough to make a full panel, i went ahead and cut out to get a better grain pattern, plus this give me the opportunity to flip to prevent bowing in unstable environments.

Image

Getting them glued up

Image

I was amazed how much dust the Dust Deputy removes. This was after all the cutting, routing, and sanding. They said 99% removal not 99.9999%. Just guessing didnt count each particle. lol

Image

Picked out our stain. Using Dark Paste Wood Filler and General Finish Georgian Cherry Gel Stain. I spent a day working with transtint and just couldnt get it.

Starting to mill doors, Its a little extra work but like to cut away as much stock before milling panels... It pays off in the long run, look at all the stir sticks I have for the staining process.

Image

Look Mom... No Dust... Its under control, need to work on static issues, although not that bad

Image

Oak is ready available but I hate the Open Grain, to help with a smoother surface I use a dark paste grain filler

Image

After the Grain Filler has dried and sanded

Image

Door Assembly (11 doors) stain the edge before assembly prevents them unsightly panty lines when the wood expands. LOL. I have to mill the door edge before applying grain filler. Progress slowed down... YEAH RAIN!!!

Image

I love watching the rain so moved to the drawer assembly, humidity doesnt effect drytime.

Image

I have one more coat of stain before sealing on Galley...
