Yeah, those mounts are pretty straightforward, so even though there is potential for a cool idea from KC, will probably stick with this one in the end. The take-your-time build will be the standy, I am just trying to build as much cool into a 2 mo build as possible at this point. I like this little trailer too because the fenders bolt into the sides and not through a bracket that puts two bolts on top, so I like that. (You obviously don't need to worry about that!

This 3.5 wide 4' long will be a 4x7 when I am done with it.

Actually I was worried about those bolts and that was why I wanted to lift my trailer up a little. But I pulled the trailer around for two days and there was no rubber from the tires on the bolts so what I decided to do was take the wheels off and I ground the bolt and nut down a bit so they did not extend down so far. I feel pretty comfortable that they will not bottom out. But yeah it seems like an unneccessary design flaw with those bolts sticking down like that.

Standup, I totally understand what you were feeling about those bolts, I remember another member who had the exact issue with different bolts in a different position, but still, they were rubbing on the tire and he was just lucky to catch it in time!

Can we skip August this year and go straight to September?

That is great information guys, thank you! I still have it on the drawing board since I have friends with welders and are glad to help. "If" I went the metal route, I am concerned that there is no way to put a barrier on the fastener as there would be a screw going through the aluminum skin through to the steel frame. Would that small of a "touch" be inconsequential as long as a barrier is placed on the majority of the surface? Just trying to think it through.

I just rebuilt the front end of a great dane 53 ft trailer,I had to put 1/8 steel plate under the top rail top stiffen it up.I painted and covered the steel with a non conductive tape(duct tape) to prevent bi metallic corrosion,but,I did use aluminum rivets to fasten the 2 together.The rivets get squooshed by using an air hammer like the one's they used to used to build bridges.As long as no water gets through your fasteners(as I was told)you will not have to worry about corrosion.

Standup, you have the larger trailer and I have the smaller 3.5 x 4' trailer, and it looks like they have different spring hangars. In this pic it shows them (Ironically as the only item not labelled), but they are bolted onto the axle with 2 bolts each. I plan to put spacers between the frame and hangars.

2bits - what about just putting a lifting block between the axle and spring (and bigger u-bolts of course) that's how they lift trucks so it should work for a trailer too

That's a cool idea, I could source my own U bolts from big lotz and use the same thick square tubing I was going to use anyway. Might save me some warping on the thin HF frame too... hmm...

Yesterday I picked up all the steel from the steel mill, and went by Home Depot and got 99% of everything I will need for the build. Tom is donating two windows and I only need a roof vent and a little trim...

Square Tube ½ x ½ x 16ga x 20 = 5
FLAT 1/8 x 1 ½ x 20’ = 3
Unequal Angle 2 x 1½ x 1/8 x 10 = 1
Square tube 2 x 2 x 1/8 x 10’ = 1

The 3/4" plywood floor, I also got three rolls of the tar roof patch stuff to seal the underside and sides of the floor. You can see the cool Pine panelling for the walls laying flat and the nice headliner panelling standing up. I also got all the lower aluminum trim I will need.

I have some edge trim you can have if you want it. I have 3 or 4 pieces and it's 12' long so you need to come pick it up, I don't deliver
