So the cold and the worst of the wind died down yesterday. I got out the hose, bucket, cleaner, and sander.
I managed to wash, sand, and prime with BIN the sides and bottom that were in the garage at the time of the fire.
Looks like they'll be sealed well enough for a topcoat and won't smell.
I put insulation board in the bottom, a quickie floor, and got to work on the framing.
This is where it starts to finally look like a camper.

Passenger side ready for door cutout.

Today was more windy than yesterday but was manageable.
I managed to get the front panel cut out and installed, roof spars ripped and central roof installed, got the rear hatch cut out, and got the door opening cut out.
So I wrapped things up after cutting out the space to make a door.

Hey! It's looking like a trailer at this point. Nice recovery. :)

Keep at it,

Got moving at a reasonable hour this morning.
Made a trip to Lowes for more primer, a push broom, and some assorted hardware.
Started priming the tailgate and made a quick swipe over the door opening edges with the primer.
Got set up, ripped and installed the roof spars on the curved areas.

Managed to get the FRP roof skin installed.
Would have been easier, neater, and cleaner with at least two people but oh well, it's on.

Saturday I worked my butt off cleaning the house all day and got ready to get some work done on Sunday.
Sunday I got my hustle on, returned bottles, went grocery shopping, and stopped off at Lowes.
Bought a couple of more sheets of FRP and the glue for it, plus laminate trim bit for the router, a shureform file, and some door hardware.

Sunday I pulled all the screws out that hadn't counter-sunk themselves, ran the countersinking bit, and put them back in, then ran the shureform over the edges to smooth it all out, cleaned the side off, applied glue and put the first side of FRP on.
Monday I used the laminate trimmer, which made fast, clean work of the FRP.
Flipped it over, did the same prep work, and put the passenger side on.

Are you flipping this thing over by yourself?????? I like it. Doing away with the hatch was a good thing since you needed to do a speed build.

With the way I've built it, it's turning out to be quite a lightweight build.
So this is yes, I am able to tip it over on it's side by myself.
Moving it around is aided by the casters I have screwed to the bottom and a mover's dolly.
The way the bottom, front, rear, and roof framing are done, it gives the OSB just enough framing to be quite sturdy.
The FRP is making it a bit heavier but the skin looks better than trying to fix the raised OSB fibers.
I've got two 14' sections of edge molding on order from the local RV place, along with plain white channel cover. I'm hoping I can get the FRP scuffed, cleaned, and primed, I can then put a solid coat of oil based white outdoor rustoleum on it and not have any issues with UV breakdown.

I guess I'm going to make this a little more expensive than anticipated but it looks so much better with the FRP on it.
It won't ever be as pretty as the other builds but it's going to be campable within a week. I'll roll it up on the trailer, bolt it down, and be on my way.
I'm hoping to get the trailer overhauled this coming weekend.

I'm calling this my training tear. GuyllFyre Alpha 1.

I think it looks nice. The FRP was a great idea. And there's no arguing, you got 'er done quick!!

Enjoy camping at your 40's in a Bag. It looks like you're going to make it just fine.

Thanks Becky!
Reading your build thread and many, many others here finally got me into gear and building instead of planning.
Sometimes you just need to make that jump and do it, regardless of whatever else happens.

I decided against the full hatch and instead am making a tailgate for speed but I also wanted that shelf space inside the tear as I don't tend to need the galley so much but I am a techie...so need places for speakers, media player, TV, inverters, charge regulators for solar, breakaway connectors for the car, plus isolation relays...all those things needed to keep a bank of batteries happily supplying entertainment after hours.

That stuff will come later as the fire put me a little behind schedule but I will definitely have a comfy bed instead of a cramped car for the night.

There will be nice cars, good people, bonfire, and many alcoholic beverages consumed.

It will be so nice to stretch out under many blankets and sleep happily.

Thanks to all of the wonderful builds here!

Today I trimmed the FRP on the passenger side and cut out the FRP over the door opening.
I then stuck the door cutouts together and also did the same with the tailgate.

Took the day off today, had an appointment at 9:45 AM, that wrapped up quickly, made a trip to Albany RV to pick up the edge moldings I ordered, then came home and got to work.
Pulled the teardrop out into the sun, trimmed the tailgate FRP and squared up the door, found out that the glue hadn't cured yet, so hopefully that will cure soon so that I can fill holes and paint.
Also fit the edge molding, the aluminum was flexible enough to bend on the reasonable radiuses without too much hassle.
Then took a lunchbreak.
