I unrelated fun this weekend, I took Tom, my adopted son out with some friends on our trials motorbikes and it was decided that the next weekend away should be with the teardrop there as well.... about time.

Here is a link to the pics posted, with a couple as tasters.

Never thought even a month ago that I would go over a 24 plus inch tree stump on a motorbike and stay on top.

Image

Tom, a very happy boy at the end of the day, his life revolves around X-Box and computer games and TV, so I am pleased to have got him out of the house.

Image

Jon getting out of the "log box" in style, not bad for a 50 year old who only started riding trials 18 months ago.

Image

Pete showing how it should be done.... the guy can ride, after only 3 years.

Got a kick up the butt by the wife last week.

We moved here early September last year and I got a 30x30 foot garage in the deal.
Since then, and more importantly, since becoming redundant in January, I had not made much of an effort to sort out the garage.
I have had a joboffer this week , subject to USA approval of my appointment etc.....
However, last week Nicola came home from work on Monday and in once sentence managed to make me take notice :(

She asked : "When are you going to sort out that garage ? "

I had been talking to her about building another teardrop, small, lightweight and pretty for a while now... The teardrop wil be a present for her daughter, who loves camping.

So I guess it is time I started sorting stuff out.

I do not have a decent "BEFORE" pic, but this one should give you an idea..... while serviceing my trials bike the week before last, look at the background.

Image

Now I am still not finished, but by last night it looked like this below, so it is almost the "AFTER" pic.
I still have to sort out all my powertools, the paint shelves and a few other bits, then we will be ready for "TEARDROP TIME" again.

Looking inward from the one door.

Image

Looking outward, so one wall is sorted now.
Still have a 5x4 box trailer of stuff to unpack and sort out.

Image

This was where I had made it to last night, it is 13.00 now and I had to get to town earlier to get a new Jigsaw, as my trusted Black and Decker died this week after more than 20 years of faithfull service and brutal abuse and run some other errands.

Quite a radical departure from building the Grizz-Pod outside in all weathers.

I sometimes have to pinch myself about the sheer size and good fortune we have, living here.

I think it is important never to forget your blessings.

This was the end of play last night.

Does not look like much, but I now have all solvents, spraypaints, petrol, diesel etc in the steel cabinet at the rear of the garage, also put up more shelves and a pin board yesterday.
Unpacked the trailer of tools and "stuff" that has been stood out front of the garage since August last year.

Today I need to rearrange all the power tools according to function and regularity of use.

Last thing I did last night was to start putting up my collection of numberplates..... I used to have a collection of about 500 numberplates, but reduced it massively before moving out here.

Image

Raining all day today, so once the bikes are out the garage... no excuse not to get on with the process.
I have many shelves of paint and wood treatments to clear and sort as well.

Typically, I am always "busy" in there, and fortunately my wife understands.

In fact, she often bannishes me to the garage, and also told me to build the woodwork shop.

I am very envious of a 30 x 30 garage! However, my wife MUST park in the garage, so it stays fairly sorted, most of the time.
God Bless

Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars !!

Who remembers that album ??

Or alternately, War of the Worlds.

Old thick walled frying pan, some steel skewers from a table football game..... mix together, drill holes and you have a Spider from Mars.

Image

Once fitted, you have a cap for the BBQ, where the rain does sometimes get down the chimney onto the coals.

I may still trim the legs a bit, but happy from a functionality point of view.

Right.... DONE !!!

It took me Friday all day to sort the last of the garage out, to get stuff unpacked, onto the walls and into containers and cabinets.
I managed to sort the various paints, varnishes and other surface coverings, oils for bikes cars etc out.
Now it is packed by function, colour, use and a last shelf for all those pots of paint you will never use again.

Image

The CHERRY ON TOP is a FREE fridge I got from Dazzle Darren on UKGSER, picked up by my mate Lebowski when he went to fetch a new sofa in Guildford on Saturday.
The fridge will live on top of the Freezer which Lebowski gave us as he has nogot any use for it.
I also slippe some ply under the fridge to make a small "table top" for the kettle and coffee, tea sugar etc to go onto.
I just need to electrify the area and then we are in business.
Today i picked up some nice enamel advertising signs for £6 at the bootfair, which will go up soon.

I also need to start unpacking my numberplate collection from around the world and fit them to the roof beams.

Image

This area will get tidied up a bit more soon.

Image

Next stop.... numberplates etc.

Right.....

Some of you probably know, I will be back into a regular paid job from Monday.

Soooooooo.... no more making stuff, building BBQ's etc.

However, Nicola has told me to get on with it, and have a block built shed put up where the Wendy house was.

This is so that I can have a dedicated woodwork room.

The plan is to add a carport over part of the drive in front of the garage for bodywork and Teardrop trailer building when finances allow for it.

Yes, you heard me right..... we are building another Teardrop trailer.
If I could build a Grizz-Pod then another should be easy ??? Errrmmm.... nope. It is for Hannah, Nicola's daughter who loves Cornwall and camping.
She has a 1.0 liter Suzuki Alto, so lightweight and nimble is the brief.

In the mean time, I would like to call on Lewist123456789 to help me with the planning as he is a bit OK on that front.

I was planning to build it myself, but suspect it may become a paid for job, at least the blockwork will be done by a Pro.

Started with this at 8.30am yesterday......

My mate Jon who was also made redundant in January had to MOT his Blackbird at 9am, after which he was coming to help me for a while.

Image

By 10.30 this was the situation, including a cuppa tea, thanks to Nicola keeping an eye on us.

Image

As always, Harley was there to help while moving the Wendy house, actually checking for mice and rats where the foundations were.

Image

9 foot x 9 foot shed, front end will be where the galvanised beam is lying as a marker. Double French doors I took out the house in December will go into the front, no windows on the wals, as I want to maximise wall space.
Plan is also to try get some glass sheets from office partitioning to use as a roof, heavy, but more natural light.

Image

Just to get perspective.

Image

I know it is greedy, but hey, we have probably got 20 plus year to go here..... so may as well get it sorted while we can, and then start to develop my woodworking and specifically "artistic wood turning"

With the garage completely sorted out and being able to now walk in there in the dark to fetch stuff out, I thought it was the last big job..... ermmm, no, Nicola wants a small greenhouse behind the garage on the farmers land.

Image

Now to find some builders.

Well, I have been back in a job since 5th September, and what a change to my lifestyle.

Most of you know by now that Nicola allows me loads of stuff most wives would kill their husbands for.

A few weeks ago she pressurised me to sort the garage out.

Now it is sorted she has started pressurising me to get the area outside sorted too.

This constituted having the old concrete slab broken up, and removed.
New block paving laid down, some small walls rebuilt and also getting a 10x8 foot shed built.

Yesterday the paving guy came with 2 guys......

They started with the area as cleared by Nicola and I on Sunday.

Image

Image

Spray painted lines show where the new base for the shed will be built up to.
Image

By last night this was the scene accross the road.

Image

With this lot on the front driveway entrance.

Image

By evening this was where they had got to.

Image

Image

By tonight the new wall and base for the shed was ready, a few tons of sand down on top of the hardcore and a 6mm armoured electric cable laid from 3 meter into the shed space to 2 meters past the garage, so as to get decent electricity into the new shed.

Image

And by 3pm the paving blocks/bricks were being delivered.

Looking forward to another productive day, and hopefully paving stones all down and cropped.

Image

2 days worth of updates in one then.

The shed will be here on the 10th October, after which I will get it sorted, and ready to start building another teardrop caravan.

Winter will see me out the house more than inside it, hopefully.
Greetings from England.

Only going to post one pic of the completed drive/parking.

The paving guy delivered on the agreement, and I was happy to pay him.

Still a few things to do, which I will do as I get to them.

Image

Ordered a 10x8 foot workshop, delivery and construction date 10th October.

Also laid an armoured 6mm cable to get electricity to the shed, and a distribution box for it.
