I suppose primer might be okay, but any thing else will likely need a scuff to form a mechanical bond. That would likely form less of a bond than glue and canvas straight on spackle and foam (or wood).

I did hit my wood with "the mix", but anywhere I haven't already sanded I will scuff before canvas.

I was concerned how tb2 would stick to the mix ect.
Ive got a good waterbased sealer i considered using but general concensus seems to be go over raw ply.
I guess if you apply the pmf corectly and give it some good coats of paint it should be impervious.
I plan on using dulux or taubmans exterior weather shield.
Its guaranteed for as long as you own the house over timber weatherboards and wont perl crack or fade so i recon i mightnt seal it just incase it stops the tb2 sticking well.
Its all a big expensive guessing game realy isnt it!

Yes, but after seeing water bead off of wood treated with poly, I couldn't help but lay a few coats of the mix on my roof spars and anywhere that there will be a break in the canvas (door jambs, roof fan, hatch actuator switch mount, rear wall edges, front bump out, etc.). I used a couple of coats of TB2, first one thinned, on the underside of my floor and scuffed before flipping it down to start the buildup.

I figure some or all of the mix will get removed when scuffed off, but probably some will have soaked in deeper, so in the end it is probably worth doing.

I used an acrylic version of the mix that a got before id heard of the mix but its verry good.
Ive done all my frames ect and my galley componants ect.
Well i finished early and before i left this morning i wet down some canvas to preshrink it and got home and glued it to the hatch.
Looks pretty good but the winds just picked up big time so i had to clamp it on round the edges so i didnt peel off!

What a chore!
Inbetween cooking dinner i set about trimming up some of the excess canvas that wraps under the hatch but in order to stick the canvas on i had to remove all the excess polyurathane adhesive that was impossible to mask off due to the nature of the beast.
This was done by pain stakingly scraping with a stanly knife blade and i went through about 4 on the 2 sides.
Then i gave it all a good sand..
Its 8.20pm and i may carry on tonight but ive just finaly sat down and its feeling good

Thanks bud it realy did come up well considering it was my first go with thick canvas
One thing i did find that might be of help to someone else...i had a couple of small bubbles i noticed when it was half dry and i painted some of the watered down tb2 onto the offending spots then massaged it through the canvas with my fingers.
I put a decent amount on...worked perfectly.
Definatly alot harder than bedsheets i used on the roof though

Your craftsmanship is fantastic! One thing I've been wondering about... What was the deciding factor to use canvas and tb2 rather than fiberglass cloth and epoxy?

Cheers mate,hard to believe those hatch timbers were old warf planks lieing around in a wood pile for years.
As for the glue ,canvas and paint over glass was a few reasons.
Cost was one factor,as was my experience with glass is limited and i live in a nightmareish place for glass.either far to hot or two cold.
Painted canvas is simple to repair and mustly because of the texture.
I realy want that doped canvas biplane aperance.
It will go well with the stucco aluminium.
The stucco wasnt my first choice but its period for caravans here and was dirt cheap.
Most of the canvas will have alumiium floated over it

Yea im not in totaly uncharted waters.
I had toyed with the idea of glass and also composite pannel.....the ever evolving build
Im trying to find a suitable green paint code or colour name they can mix off.
I want a ww2 or korean war Era jeep/tank green.
Or something there abouts.
Bust out your colour charts mike!
