Nice drawers Tom! I have been killing myself on the car these past few weekends, hoping to drive it to Loyd Park in Sept or at least LCG in Oct.. At least we are out there getting stuff done! I am looking forward to seeing your galley finished!

Those drawers are looking great! Which brand jig do you use with your router?

Earl,

The jig I used was the mouse that is connected to my computer.

I was going to buy a jig - still may in the future - but due to the expense of the jig and the lack of time I purchased the drawer box parts online. I believe it was around $20 per each drawer which includes the half-blind dovetail sides and the drawer bottoms.

Take care,
Tom

Nice Tom! Those jigs are pricey, and I still haven't found the one I want. Ok, you know the next question....Where did you buy the drawer parts?

You've been a lot busier than I have - too much heat. I can't wait to see the Monte, BTW.

Earl,

I've been wrestling with what type of jig to get and whether or not I'll ever use it enough to justify the cost. It seems particularly true for dovetail jigs that "you get what you pay for". They don't seem to go on sale and I haven't found any used ones on Craigslist.

I bought the drawer boxes from Lakeside Moulding:

Take care,
Tom

Despite the record heat, I've been pressing on to get my teardrop cabinetry finished.

All of my cabinet face frames, doors, drawer fronts, and most of the cases and interior cabinet components are built. The parts that I haven't built need to be fitted after the cabinets are installed, so...time for my least favorite part of woodworking - finishing.

The interior of the cabinets and the galley floor are getting a painted finish. I applied two coats of high-build auto primer, then sanded, and applied three coats of hammered steel finish from the rattle can.

Here are some before, during, and after photos:

The face frames, drawer fronts, and cabinet doors are getting an ebonized finish. First, I "stained" the cabinet parts with two coats of black india ink. In the pictures, they look completely black, but they do have a slight brown tint from the red oak and the grain shows through.

Here's a few photos before staining and after:

I will add enough poly to fill the grain. Here are the cabinet parts after two coats of polyurethane:

After the poly cures for a couple of days, I'll sand everything and apply 2-4 more coats. The poly I'm using is gloss. To get get the satin finish that I want, I'll go over the cabinet parts with 0000 synthetic steel wool and paste wax. Then I can begin cabinet installation.

Take care and thanks for looking at my build,
Tom

Those look great Tom! Can't wait to see them installed in the SB.

You are right, the heat has been brutal!

Tom,

Guys like you make me sick. "I'll make some cabinets", you say and then you just think it out DO IT. And they look professional. Wish I had that gene/gray matter.

Your rig is gonna be great....you can tell by the details you put in.
