You definitely need something closer to this shape. The hook part would mount to the inside wall and the flat plate to the inside of the door, this would allow the inside of the hook to curl around the jamb as the door opens.

Might get a bit complicated, but you could try to copy a cabinet hinge (kitchen type) designed for mounting doors on the outside of the faceframe. They extend the door outward as it opens so that it does not make contact with the faceframe of the cabinet. I doubt that You could find any big enough that are already available.

Actually you can find hinges like that... They use them in some of the wild tuner cars with door the flip open all kinds of weird ways. Downside is the cost about $500. each.

Well you are way beyond my talents, but I know there are some hinges that as they open they extend further away using springs etc. Not sure if you could make something like that into that hinge.
My Idea of plans are a tape measure, a saw and a dream.

That sounds like an excellent plan - you should be able to get somewhere close to 90 degree opening with that. Remember to keep the hinge pin as near the outside of the body as well.

That will indeed be the model 4000 then.

If you put the hinge at the top you would have a changing room with a roof. How Cool !!!

:D I have a Binford 5000 in stock. The only problem is that it takes 2 men and a boy to pick it up. Cost may be prohibitive, around $5500 each.

Sounds like the Binford 4000 is coming up soon! Whenever I make stuff like that I usually cut out a cardboard profile (looking from the top down at it) and play around with it till I get it workin like I want... Just a suggestion. Unless you can find some trunk hinges off an old Buick... they would work good!

There is some hot-rod trunk hinges already out there kinda like what you are doing:

Cardboard you say, I guess I go find some cardboard.

As the hinge grows it will have to take on that shape, to miss the spar.

Does anyone have pics by chance. $500 is way out of my league.

Sounds like I am headed in the right direction, will work on a cardboard and duct tape model first.

Cool yes, but I am afraid that would be a can of worms, that somebody replaced the worms with snakes. It would be cool though.
