Me and my Crew

Postby Alfred » Fri May 01, 2009 9:13 pm

Hey Gang,

Finished framing side one tonight. Had a lot of help this afternoon from my "crew". Funny thing, the more helpers I got, the less work I get done (Grin)! Finished up the day with some barbecue chicken on the grill. See pix below. A really nice day...

The kids insisted on sleeping on the floor in sleeping bags tonight, wanted to "pretend" we're out camping!

Al-

It may take a little longer with all of your helpers, but I bet it's much more fun! I love the "work gloves"!!

Hope they have fun sleeping on the floor!''

Your kids will remember these times fondly for the rest of their lives! They'll still be talking about it long after you've gone to that teardrop beyond.....

Al, That chicken looks done. Glad your haven fun. I know my two boys were fun to have around, most of the time. It slowed me down, but would not have missed it for anything now that I look back. Enjoy it and sleep in the garage with them. Erv

Are you sure we're not related. If rain threatened our planned picnic, Mom had us pretend we were on a picnic. She put the tablecloth on the living room floor and we picnic'ed there.

That's funny!

Actually, when they were younger, we went 'camping' a couple of times in the back yard. I would pitch the tent and we had an outdoor fire bowl. We'd make smores and light the lantern, read stories and go to sleep in the tent. It was great, because if I woke up in the middle of the night, and nature called, I could go inside the house to use the latrine! The kids loved it! It was good practice for our first 'real' camping trip!

I've been going so slow on it, up until the past couple of months, you will probably be caught up and past me in no time!

Qick Update

Postby Alfred » Fri May 22, 2009 9:38 pm

Hey Gang,

Just a quick update, I've got both side walls framed out now, and just about ready to attach to the trailer. I'm thinking that attaching the walls is going to be a two person job, so I've gotta stop until I can either recruit a friend or the sweet Wife to clear time to help!

Will keep you posted and will send pictures when they're attached!

By the way, I ordered the 5' Better Than Hurricane Hinge from Grant/L'il Bear yesterday, so it should be here in a few days. They are having another TD gathering in VA in mid-July, and I am trying to see if I can get anything remotely camp-able by then!

:applause: Remember to use your left over corners to keep it upright and square. It is much easier to put up when supported.

You may be slow but you passed me up. I'm slower! (That's not a brag, even if it sounds like it.)

Keep pluggin' along and posting your progress. You are encouragement for me with mine.

I sure do appreciate all the support and encouragement I receive from the list. I feel kind of like that guy who tried to build the rocket ship in his backyard! But I keep plugging along...

It was a two person job for me! Fortunately the Boss was willing to help. It's a big step and a big day when you get the sides up (at least it was for me)! Congrats!

Attaching walls

Postby Alfred » Thu May 28, 2009 10:42 pm

Hey Gang,

Set the walls up against one another, and they match, more or less (Grin) which is a good thing! I'm procrastinating now, as I fret about the best way to go about attaching them and getting them square.

Image
I am wondering if these screws will work, found them at Lowes. It says on the box for pressure treated wood, and my wood is not pressure treated, but they are designed for exterior use, anybody know if these will work?

Image
I was thinking of using these shelf brackets to help hold the walls up and keep them square until I get some spars in.

Image
This is what the framing looks like from the inside...

Image
These are the two walls laid on top of each other, framing to the inside. Looks the the very tip does not match exactly, but I don't think it is off by much.

Image
Looks real good from the top. The slope matches.

Image
Another look at that tip. Actually looks a little more off here in the photo than it did when I was eyeballing it downstairs. Still, I am thinking it is manageable.

Might give it a go attaching the walls tomorrow, or might wait until next week.
