Very nice joinery on the side panels! I'm too hyper to do them this way, that's why I used plywood & just whittled them out of a stretched sheet of 3/4". Your workmanship looks really nice & if this is any indication, it's going to turn out to be a really nice teardrop. Excellent!

My day wasn't quite as productive.
Took advantage of the first snow fall of the year to treat myself to a Kermit day in the shop.
Got out there early and got a full day in ......but it was one step forward and two steps back.
So it was nice to come in an see your progress, as we have missed you this past week.

Ken, I don't know if you have found a local source for aluminum cladding ....I d like to know if you have...meanwhile I'v been looking for a while and finally found a truck trailer repair place in Fife that has 4' and 5' wide .032 ga material great price too...2 sheets ea of 5x10 and 4x10 for $230. I am going down next week to get it ...because my trailer frame is still empty and has temp lights. if it helps in any way and you want some I could pick it up for you and bring it as far as Shoreline...maybe farther if you wanted to cover some gas and ferry Rick

I do have a couple of sources for aluminum so I'll be good to go when I get to that point.

I have very limited space for not much of anything so I have to build, buy, build, buy, etc. Not extremely efficient but it works for me.

Sorry to be so slow getting back to you. The guy I needed to talk to about colored aluminum was gone for the holidays.

Midwest Sign in Seattle has colored aluminum in 1/8" sheets. Apparently they come in 4' X 8', 4' X 10' and supposedly 5' X 10'.

This is theLINK for their main office but they have the Seattle store information on that website.

My friend says that they make a trip to Anacortes a couple times a week and will deliver it there.

Give them a call and good luck. I've not dealt with them but my friend says that they are great people.

1/8 " is pretty thick!

Try the .040" aluminum, it's plenty strong and a bit lighter than 1/8" which would be too heavy! Should be plenty of availability for you in color choices.

It's been a few days again but I've been making progress on my wall cores. I have them all glued up and now have then rough-cut to my pattern.

I like to remove as much material as I can before I fire up the router. So first I mark around my pattern onto the core a line approximately 1/8" from the edge using a compass.

Then I draw a line right next to the pattern with a red pen. This gives me a "cut line", the black one, and a "keep out" line, the red one. This works really well for these old eyes.

I've made some more progress on my walls but the big news is that my fenders arrived.

The bad news is that I'm worried that they maybe too darn big!

Unfortunately I'm building my TD in a very tiny portable garage so I can't get far enough away from it to see what they really will look like.

I've taken some pictures and thought maybe I could get some guidance from you all.

As you can see there is a huge amount of space between the tire and the top of the fender. The trailer is not on the ground and of course there's no weight that would compress the torsion axle. I know that would narrow the space some but will it be enough, I'm just not sure.

It you all think it's just fine then my second question would be, where do I mount it so the fender will be centered on the wheel since the torsion axle will move back some as it gets loaded.

I would wait and locate them once you are on the ground and at ride height. You may have to go to a bigger wheel and tire combo to fill them out.

What size tire and wheel does the Mfg recommend?
