Bob Henry: I would consider it a "SUN" roof curtain, so a fella can sleep in without a rude sun intruding!

Exactly right Sharon! The curtain is to block that morning sun and peeping Tom's. The purpose of the window itself is to see out at night, so that's why I call it a moon roof.

Yes, unfortunately, I actually put thought into the "proper" thing to call it. No really I am not that anal. no really! REALLY~

Maybe living in Indiana doesn't require shading, but I've been in the SW deserts and that expanse of glazing wil broil ya in a hurry. I'll have 2 skylights in the Palace and they will have shadecloth

Your Tear is looking great. Looks like when the moon roof is in the open position. It would be a handy place to store the shotgun.

NICE.

I like the print pattern on that material! Looks like something straight from 1959...

Hi Thomas, I've been reading all of the build journals in anticipation of starting my own build. Yours is one of the best I've seen so far (there are so many!). Excellent design choices and finish! Thank you for sharing all your hard work.

Cheers, Dave

Thanks everyone, and Dave I am just glad I can be seen that way by you! Wow! Yeah I was thinking that might be a good stash spot of some sort, shotgun would probably be too heavy but a shotgun in a teardrop would be hard to move around in that small space anyway a pistol is best kept lower in a handy location, but I did have the same notion at first!

Chris, I really like the pattern too, it definitely has the feel I am looking for and it really breaks up the roof a little making it feel one step more homey! I love when I get one thing accomplished, it really gets me goin again!

I am dyin to go camping! Got rained out Wed, and looks like I am gonna get rained out tomorrow too! I want to take advantage of this nice weather that we are having right now!

 I hear ya, homeslice! :D

Srsly, tho... I may have mentioned that my tear will be uninsulated and it's birch ply paneling and birch ply spars exposed to the interior... slathered in varnish, looking rich and honey-toned... but I've been thinking of adding thinly-padded, flat, fabric panels to some of the area between the spars. I dunno. I was thinking something simpler like a plaid or something more ornate like bits of persian carpeting... definately not polka dot, though.

I love the exposed spar look! It reminds me of houses where you have the open attic area, very cool look!

and easy for you to say about camping when I have tried three times and got shut out and you know winter is looming and this will be your last chance for a month! It's still nice here but winter will come! Maybe just for a month but by George, I am gonna camp!

Thanks Thomas for another much appreciated update. Very innovative solution to the moon-roof curtain mounting issue and a great fabric selection too. Superb job throughout!

I can't blame you for being frustrated with the weather, I'd want to get that baby out of the garage, enjoy her and show her off. Hang in there, you'll be on the road again soon.

And, if anyone hasn't clinked on the website link, you're missing it. Some great photos and one of the best designed websites around.

You're a man of many talents, Thomas.

So far, I am one-for-one in my quest to camp every month this year. Only one weekend left this month, Thomas.
