A partial refund? hehe you dream big! I sent him an email tho. They were actually drop shipped from another company, and I looked them up and saw they have a location on Royce City about 30min form me and offered to drive out there for a quick swap if they had any, that would be a nice solution.

If you can't swap them for undamaged ones, then rather than hassling w/ the guy your time might be better spent attempting to massage the dents away, then priming and painting the fenders to match the tear's black roof.

I plan to use that exact style fender on my tear, Thomas.

Yeah these are pretty thick steel so I'll try the swap first, if he annoys me too much, I'll try the other repair options but I think the time and expense involved with that, I could just buy another one for the same price. I got these for $75 shipped for the pair. I'll just stay positive for now because these just look so cool!

Well the guys wrote me back first thing this morning and said they will ship another one out at no charge and do a call tag to pick up the dented one! It is really nice to be treated like a valued customer and get good service! I wish THAT was the norm! So even though it was shipped lousy at least they are making it right without a battle!

Thomas - Great news!

It's good to hear of someone standing behind the products all the way to the new owner.

Those look like the fenders I have on mine. Do they have back plates to protect the side of your TD?

I got them at Tractor Supply for about 35 bucks each. I painted them flat black.

Thomas:
Those fenders are going to look great. I now I would have to send them back if they were mine. Otherwise every time I walk by them I would think about them and be mad. There is allready a couple things that I would do different on mine I guess it's my compulsive disorder just have to live with it. I would make them make good with new fenders then you just lose a little teardrop time. Teardrop is looking great.

Anyone have any ideas for this one besides fighting with the seller? I would rather avoid that whole mess. It was an eBay transaction, but he is a business.

I also really like the bare galvanized steel look, although painting is still in consideration since it was my first choice, but I think it really makes the other chrome on the trailer come out.. Any thoughts on that, look wise and technical issues to consider?

Here's some pics of one set in place:

You can see the dents in this pic... and I asking for too much?

Thomas those look great! (other than the dents)
Looks really close to mine. I got mine from this seller: http://myworld.ebay.com/ebaymotors/superiorexp/ for $60 shipped. They are a 9x32 with backplate. mine arrived covered with bubble wrap and cardboard, but still had one small dent in the rolled lip. Fortunately it came out really easily. Glad you were able to get them to ship replacements. It's always a relief when a seller stands by their product.

I agree they look great bare metal - clearcoat might be an option.

Caseydog, yeah they are pretty much the generic fenders you can get at alot of places, looks like mine might curve down a little more than the ones on yours. I can't remember why I didn't go that route, probably because most places didn't have a 10.75 wide fenders which I needed, and that also had the backing plate which I wanted. These have that backplate too, that was a requirement for me.

GreatPumpkin, Yeah those are the exact guys I got these from! Mine were the wider ones at 10.75 x 32" so they were a bit more but he made me a deal on them less than the auction was selling them for, so even though the drop shipper included THEIR invoice, I am still happy with the price. Makes me want to go into to business again tho. Wholesale rocks!

well thomas I just read all 43 pages of your post about building the
"Looks good in the woods" teardrop.
I have built two airplanes one all fiberglass one tube and aluminum.
we always said it was 90% done with 90% to go.
nice looking trailer.
This spring I am going to modify a cargo trailer I had to take a disability retirement and sold my travel trailer.
I will have most of the work done at the factory I will only need to insulate build front cabinets and some sorta bed, I have a futon but i'm thinking queen size sounds very nice.
I did notice you don't have side lights are they not required in Texas?
so again great job on the trailer and happy camping.

Hi Pete,

I will never get tired of these messages when someone reads a whole build start to finish! I love it from both angles as I have done the same thing many a time! You certainly paid attention with the "Looks good in the woods" quote!

I have a friend who is building the fiberglass Vari-ese EZ plane also, I think my project is about 98% easier haha you must be a great craftsman, and I am looking forward to seeing your build come up! Yes side lights are required I believe when a trailer is over 10ft long or some kind of width limit, I can't remember the details, but mine was inside that limit so I didn't need to. alot of people add them for extra visibility, and I might add some reflectors at some time when I am finishing it out.

Thanks again Pete!

Sweet

Postby paperdoor » Thu Feb 18, 2010 1:53 am

Sweet build Thomas -
Its nice they were so nice to swap out the damaged fender -
Day one - I bought a trailer light module for my car - spent an hour trying to figure out why it wasn't working - realizing the module was faulty, and the trailer parts company i bought it from wouldn't replace it , told me to go to...well -
no refunds dude! ok past that -
I look forward to running into you and your work on the road -

I like the fenders the way they are, because they make the edging "pop", but in the picture they look different tones, and I would probably prep them and paint them black to match the top if the fenders are galvanized and the trim is actually chrome. Or send them off to be chromed.
