I was going to use fibreglass sheeting. 1.6mm thick - 1.5m wide. Solid and light. Still need to have trim on the edges etc.

Bloke from Brisbane was selling it (Reiner Gudd) but is out of stock and not sure when he will be getting some more. Cheaper than Aluminium but dearer than canvas I would imagine. I might even try some canvas on a test piece to see if I can get a nice smooth finish like a boat. Test and price comparison coming up.

Are you floating the aluminium roof or gluing it down. I was just thinking about the little hollow you will have with the canvas on just the edges and nothing in the middle. Do you need to glue a bit more canvas down the middle to give yourself a flat surface.

Ive delt with rainier hes not a bad guy,i got my huricane hinge off him.
I think youll find at the moment aluminium is as cheap as its ever been.
I just got a 3 x 1.5 meter x 1 6mm sheet for 88 bucks.
Ifvyou find a place that sells rolled sheet you can get .6mm x 1.2m wide for around 20 a meter.
Having said that if you use drill canvas as i have you would have no issue completly flattening out the weve and havinf a flat high gloss finish if you used the apropriate paint.
For the record pmf is far from cheap in australia.
Well it could be but i used the best paint i could buy as i never want to have to repaint it and that was 90 bucks for 4 liters.
The canvas was 11 bucks per lm (1.5 wide ) and about 30 bucjs for glue
Not to mention fillers ect.
I like thi finish but a composite panel can ve had for as little as 60 bucks for 2 4x1.2

Your welcome bud.

Got the roof canvas finish painted ready for aluminium and 1 coat on the now finished passenger side.
Had a bit if a bubble issue and a hand print on the drivers side so i had to give it another coat to.
Tomorrow i hope to have the sides finish painted and get the roof aluminium and trim on.
Might be a bit ambitious but ill try.

Looking good!

For a second there I thought the brown bottle with gold foil was a Michelob, but then I remembered where you're at. Made me think of DB. :D

Looking really good now. How thick (thin) is your aluminum? I like the pebble finish, should be easy to maintain. :)

Its thick,1.2mm but i picked up 5 sheets of it for 80 bucks back when i started the build...verry cheap.
I dont overly like it but it suits the retro theme and was used widly on caravans here in the 50s and 60s so its got some nostelgia.
Wasnt that easy to bend around the front corner though.
Im happy with the edge trim though, introduces some black to tie the doors in
