If it suits you and you don't mind taking the time, another way to fix that "holiday" (the router boo boo) would be to route out a slightly larger area with cut lines running with the grain, then glue in a Dutchman patch of matching grain. You could take a small rectangular section all the way from the floor to the sill of the door. The vertical grain lines would mask the repair somewhat, likely to the point that it would be relatively unnoticeable. Just another option that someone recommended to me back when I had a similar mistake.
