I know it looks like some other photos we've already put up but this is one of the first coat of varnish complete and drying. Did that today. Gnats are the death of me!!! I was picking them outta the finish with a pair of tweezers. ARGGHH!!!

Image

We also got the hinge from Grant dry fitted and also the door hinges in place.

More with the hatch tomorrow.

ooh, almost forgot...The Comfort Air fan is in....photos later...

Yeah, It's a shame their stage is gone, they have had to resort to other horizontal surfaces.

Thanks for the compliments!

Well, now they have a puppet stage...
Image

I never did get a chance to show you the purdy diamond plate for the front. Here it is...just leaning and not attached yet. It's going on the front and also a 5.5 inch strip down the bottom of the sides. We wanted to do something down the sides because on the right side we have some inperfections in the wood that we tried to "fix". Unforutnately it didn't go as planned.
Image
PS: Do not use cheap painters tape to mask your wood! It took me two hours just to get the adhesive off the nice wood sides from this mistake.

Like I said the hatch is dry fitted. It fits like a glove after hubby shaved and sanded again and again. I got some good excercise getting up and down about 20 times to take the hatch on and off again and again...and again.
Image
#3 son is trying to evade the picture. (it's just not cool to be in parents photos, heaven forbid someone see him helping his parents. )

Husband thinking....big brother teasing little sister.
Image

I'm not too happy with the sides being two different colors but heck you can only be on one side of the tear at a time hugh??! Unless you're God, but I'm not.
Image
Our friends, Jayne and Tim, ordered the ply and we should have paid more attention when separating it because they have the same deal. Oh well, our tears are sisters so they would have the same genes, right?!

View from the inside of the tear. The doors fit great!

More photos to come.

STILL varnishing. :?
I feel like I've been varnishing forever!! BUT with great advice from the wonderful people on this forum, I will keep at it until I get at least 6-7 coats. At only one coat a day it's very frustrating. oh well....
Everytime it dries I have to do this to it and mess it all up. It's not fun for me!!! I like seeing the finished product. uggg! And it's now raining so even more time to wait!!!

We now have drawer pulls. YAY!
We had leftover from doing our kitchen a few years back. I think they look very nice and today we picked up some other accessory items at Lowes to finish off the galley. The things I got are a surprise but will look good with the pulls.

Surprise!! We're pretty much finished the galley. Those black bars were the surprise. Walked past them on the end cap at Lowes and knew they would be perfect to go with the drawer pulls. Had to see them in place first to be sure though.

Image

Could anyone tell me different materials to use to cover the inside of the hatch?? We're not settled on just luan. We don't want any seams. I'm gonna go look at some pictures to get some ideas after I post this.

Also here's pics of the fan as promised...

Image

I'm pretty excited cause soon we'll be showing you pics of us out on our first trip... YAY!!!!

Different materials? I used white Formica on mine although I don't know if it would be right for your particular application. It comes 5' wide and any length you want. No seams and it cleans easily.

BTW, your galley looks great!

Thanks for the complement Mark!!

Good suggestion! Hubby doesn't think there's enough surface to glue formica to on our hatch. Still lookin' into it though cause I like that look!!

Haven't gotten too much finished on the Tear in the last couple of weeks. These ladies have been taking up all of our time... uggg!!! Gotta get them under cover before the winter hits...

Image

Hubby decided our 20 chickens needed new homes. Two coops have been in the works.

Image
Image

Small stuff has gotten finished though...

The door trim.
Image

The electric access cover....we hope this doesn't leak, might have to put something different here.
Image

And a bumper of sorts.
Image

TMolding is ready to go on then the doors and the rest of the diamond plate.

To be continued.....

Can I ask a silly question?

Are your doors going to open into the TD? It looks like the hinges are installed that way. Just seems it will get in your way getting into and out of the TD, or maybe even hit the bed.
