Over the weekend I did get the 2nd wall joined together and both walls clamped together and belt sanded. Last nite I also bought the the cross pieces for the roof joist, and got the liner panels for inside.
Next job is to get the bottom layer of aluminum sheeting on, and get the floor permanently fastenend to the trailer.

Then should be able to fasten the walls permanently.....I do have a question though. I see that most builders are fastening the wall to the trailer first, then later putting the aluminum sheeting on. Is there a reason for this, instead of putting the aluminum sheeting on while the wall is laying flat, then fastening it in the permanent postition?

Sequencing

Postby noseoil » Tue Aug 12, 2014 7:18 am

If you attach the aluminum skins to the outside prior to assembly, it makes the "trim-out" phase a bit more difficult. For example, when wires are run for a porch light, how would you do it? To fasten the spars in place, how do you run the fasteners? They will hold better if you can screw them in from the outside of the plywood and into the joists, etc.

It's just an issue of the build, sequencing and planning, for all those little details which need to be thought out. It's also better to avoid prolonged sessions of self-medication in the moaning chair. :tipsy:

Thanks, this makes very good sense, especially this part, "To fasten the spars in place, how do you run the fasteners? They will hold better if you can screw them in from the outside of the plywood and into the joists".

Last nite I added some wall studs, and the bottom piece of wood that will sit on the floor of the trailer. Moving, but slowly.

I have to ask. I'm about to start my build and questions are popping to my head as i follow your blog. How far are you spacing your screws for your joists?

Hurry and get started!!! but beware, its addictive, im having lots of fun.....my only complaint is that I cant spend enough time in the garage. lol

To answer your question, are you talking about the wall joist? See photo below.
If so, I believe I was putting 2 screws side by side about every 8 to 12 inches, plus the glue.......this prob is a lil over kill...... but I would rather to many, than it start coming apart later on.

Does that answer you question or were you refering to something else?

Let me know when you start your build to. Thanks Caleb.

So, the only thing keeping me from putting on the walls and fastening them permantly to the floor is,
1. Putting the aluminum layer under the floor for a weather barrier.
2. Bolting the floor to the frame.

So, last night I built some temporary bucks to hold the floor above the trailer, so that I could back the trailer out, and lay the aluminum sheeting on the frame.
After I got this done, I rolled the trailer back into the garage, spread the contact cement, and lowered the floor back onto the aluminum sheeting and frame........Sure do miss forklifts.....

Trailer backed out from under the floor, and the aluminum rolled out.

Trailer under the floor again, I then crawled/squeezed in between, spread the glue, and set the floor back onto the frame and alum to dry......
Next is to bolt the floor to the frame, and start fastening the walls as soon as they are ready.
