Getting Close......

Postby Yankeeka » Tue Mar 02, 2010 5:25 pm

I started this project in October and I am getting close to getting it finished up. Everything was built and designed from scratch; I took the general shape from the cub/modern look and modeled it all in Sketchup and CAD to place everything I wanted on it.

The Trailer is 5x10 with full AC/DC power setups, propane cooker, A/C unit, water tank and of course...a full keg beer tap system! DVD, TV, Amp, Speakers and on board air compressor.

I have everything to get it finished, just need to find some time to work on it in the next few weeks. I have th aluminum, doors, electronics and beer system already to get in and get finished.

This Teardrop is being designed to match my self restored 74' Beetle; The following is a list of all the homages to the VW: Taillights will be the same, the interior ceiling was upholstered to match the door panels, the fenders and curve were designed to match the car....VW emblem and matching 74' plates for both the car and the trailer..

I will try to get some more pictures up but these were the last one taken with the car mocked up with the Teardrop...Thanks for everyones help and I will be excited to show off the finished product....Viva La Archback!

That's very nice! Looking forward to seeing more pictures as you finish it up! In my high school and early college days I had a '73 Beetle, then a '70 Beetle, they were fun cars, this would have been around 1982-1985. I only paid $500 for the 1st one, then $600 for the 2nd one. Wish I had them today!

Yeah....I saved this little girl from the scrap yard.....I paid 200.00 for the Beetle; A wrecker had to haul it out of the field because it was not even rolling....it had no motor, no interior nothing...pretty much scrap metal. But you know..sometimes you just have a feeling so I did a crazy thing.....and now 16,000 later and a few years she is alive again with some pretty nice upgrades....and I will never part with her...and soon she is getting a sister to tow behind her hahaha!

A pair of Type 2 emblems would look great. For those that are uninitiated the Type 2 was the transporter/bus and the emblem is the largest car badge to appear on a vehicle. we had a 68, 69, 72 Baja bug (one vehicle) with the Type 2 rear end reduction gears. would climb walls but broke parts like you could not believe! :?

Very nice! I love the combination of your Beetle and teardrop profile.

You started your build about abaout a year later than I did and you're already ahead of me.

Hope to see you at a South Central gathering.

1974 Bug.......The car was a ground up build so it has full race built suspension, 4 wheel disc brakes, Rancho transmission. The Engine is a new 2110cc full flowed case with engle 120 cam, heads, dual Original Italian Weber 44 IDF's...she is a hoss of a car and I absolutely love her.

I am not exactly sure on the weight yet but we are gong to have it all weighed in when we get finished up so I will keep you posted
