1957 Cardinal restoration FOR SALE

Postby mvperini » Fri Apr 16, 2010 11:00 pm

After more than 2 years looking for a canned ham to restore i found one that i think will work. :) all the interior is there the floor is solid.the exterior is in good shape will pull off the siding to see how much framing i have to replace. I have looked at so many canned hams where the owner though they were worth a fortune. in the last month alone i have looked at 2 1952 cozy campers, 1 1953 bellwood, 1956 shasta, 1960 aloha all were in such bad shape you could not even tow them home

almost forgot also picked up a 1959 comet airstream all original 18 foot :D

The story on the airstream is over 25 years ago my wife to be gave the trailer to her oldest daughter, her family used the trailer but all the kids have moved out and they have not used the trailer for at least 10 years. anyway she came over the other day and wondered if i would like to have it to restore, the price [FREE]of course i had to make her happy and i accepted the trailer :D
DATE 8/5/2010
I decided to start working on the trailer this week, want to go camping the first of October. so i decided to try polishing the trailer, i finished one side took me about 6 hrs after work this week. when the trailer is all polished i am going to flip the axle and install 14 in rims to lower the trailer. about 6 inches. then start on the inside, will have to make a bed in the back and basic cleaning and testing all appliances and water and electric this only should take a few days.

Nice Mike. Looks like some work has been done inside. The ice box doesn't look original but that's ok. My '56 Dalton has the same floor layout and rounded cabinets, sweet.

Wonderful! Can I crawl inside and take a nap?... Then maybe sip on some java while sittin' out a rainstorm?

Very nice.

I would absolutely love an old Airstream, because they are not really about in the UK.

The resto looks good as well.
Again, I do like the wheels that were on her.

Good building there.
Greetings from England.

Rian.

Hoping to get it all done in time.

Radius corners really make an eye-catching difference with cabinetry and walls.

Please post some photos of how you restore the headliner rot in the rear when you get around to it, I am very interested in the process! NICE trailer!

Postby mvperini » Fri Aug 13, 2010 10:40 pm

I have been working on the trailer every night after work, have almost finished the first polishing and have lowered the trailer almost 16 inches, may have to put little drag wheels on the backend.

16 inches

Postby mvperini » Fri Aug 13, 2010 10:59 pm

Doug
the total drop is around 16 inches. Went from a 15 in wheel with 30 inch tall tires to 14 inch wheels with 23.9 inch tires this is after fliping the axle to the top of the leaf springs lowering another 7 to 8 inches.
The wife first response to seeing the trailer lowered was : now we have a cute little trailer like Doug

Wow!!!...that's slammed! It will be really nice behind the Chevy....I got trailer envy.... :envious: I've got some lower profile wide whites and it's amazing just how much you can lower with a different profile tire. It really came out nice....just watch the dips at the gas stations...I'm real careful. Doug
