6 x 12 Pace American. Question on A/C answered.

Started off by installing a 14 x 21 window in the right side near the rear. Was a lot of work but worth it. See photo album.

Hot, hot, hot!

Was working in the CT today and was hot. Will have to paint the roof white (currently looks like galvanized sheet) and add some insulation. Pic says it all.

Who needs a sauna with temps like that!! How many pounds did you lose from sweating while working in that oven?

Actually, I didn't lose too many pounds because I didn't work in there very long.

Battery platform

And here it is bolted in place. I plan on having one group 27 wired to 80w solar.

Today I will be stripping out the trim on the plywood walls. This is to make them flat so I can attach a counter. Here is what I ended up with.

Jeff,

I like your idea of using 3/4" ply for the battery box (saves welding metal to the tongue, a skill I don't have) but was wondering if the U bolts to hold plywood in place are necessary i.e., could a through bolt hole be drilled in the tongue frame or is it felt that would weaken the tongue frame? I'm doing a 6x10 cargo conversion and was even thinking of drilling and tapping threaded holes for bolts in the top of the frame member only, assuming the tongue frame material thickness will provide sufficient thread using something like a 3/8"- 24 tap.

Also, thanks for the excellent information on your windows install. That's next on my list.

Thanks,
Don

the front end looks great. But I would be worried about the spare tire in that location. If you turn sharpe when towing. You may have problems of the spare hitting your tow unit.

Along with planning my first build, I own a 30' RV and tow it all over Ontario. Sooner or later you will have to make a very sharpe turn. I have had my unit within inches of " jack knife" when making some turns and was always glad my tounge area was clear.

Just my $0.02 worth :)

I would have to agree with photoguy on the spare tire location. If that was my trailer I would have that pinched between the tow vehicle bumper and tongue in no time.

It would require a bit of work but you might be able to figure out how to slide it back toward the trailer and then space the battery platform higher to clear the mounting bolts for the spare tire carrier. Or will the spare clear the tongue if you hung it below the battery, centered between the tongue members?

Or move the battery forward a hair and tuck the tire between the front wall and the battery.

I like that idea. Be less drag too with the tire set flat against the front wall

Thanks guys

You were right about the tire getting pinched during a tight turn. I was able to move it back about 6 inches which does not solve the problem entirely but helps. More to follow.
