The Virginia

Postby Wolf » Thu Feb 24, 2011 5:39 pm

Well it has happened, I am building trailer for myself at last.

I love the profile of the Slumbercoach but felt that I could improve on the trim a little. So after months of drawing and redrawing, this is where I'm at.
Trim will be painted copper hammered metal finish over dark oak paneling.

I also did not want a rear galley, so more drawing and the galley is on the side now.

6 feet wide and 8 feet long on the floor. More details as we go........

At some point (asap) I will be posting videos of the build on my YouTube channel as well @

Wolf,

That's a mighty fine looking trailer you have there. It will be a great foundation for your teardrop. The Slumbercoach is a very distinctive and attractive design. I think your tweaks improve an already gorgeous teardrop/tiny travel trailer.

Keep the pictures coming,
Tom

:rainy: :rainy: :rainy: :rainy: :rainy:

I was going to pull the frame outside and get some better photos of it this weekend but we got a late season storm last night out of the blue, thunder and lighting, sleet, and then quarter-sized snowflakes. We had 80 degrees on thursday!? Now everything is wet and muddy, but hey we haven't gotten rain in months and we REALLY needed it.

Thanks guys! I lot of that metal used to be the rack for my truck that I built a few years back. Keeping it on the cheap and space is limited.

At least I got the compost spread in the garden just before the storm hit.

Now I have a reason to stay in the shop and just work on the trailer for a few days!!!!

First wall cut out and pieces joined, or how to get 103" out of a 96" sheet of plywood.

An update on the Virginia. Yes, it's been a while (I had to break off of it and do other more important things) but now I'm back to working on old number 11.

Your company did that or you paid a CNC place? I would love to get mine done like that. How do I find a place in my area that does that?

Thanks,

James

That is going to be one sweet looking trailer.
Man to have all the toys an know how to use them.

The laddered framing of the toungue, is that going to be fashioned as a cow catcher?
It would help the areo of the trailer keeping the air out from under it.

Gonna take a wild guess, are you a cabinet maker?
Build on, can't wait to see more... :applause:
If it ain't broke, fix it till it is

I know, right? Guess I should do a build myself, then I could acquire the "toys" and learn how to use them all in the same go.

BTW, the Virginia is looking good...can't wait to see the finished product!

Thank you! I had not thought of a cow catcher, need to draw that up and see what it looks like.

I have built a cabinet or two, but I would not call myself a cabinet maker. I used to be a trim and finish carpenter though.
