Zach, it sort of covers the 4 corners of the trailer, to cover the screw holes and while driving down the road doin 70 in the rain would help prevent water getting in the seams.

Yeah some knotwork would add some "flare" to it, hence the yellow paint lol.

one of the things I was looking in to with the corbels was buy one of the more expensive ones and make a mold of it and then copy it in fiberglass or even sawdust and wood glue so that I could make a few copies and make the cost more reasonable..

Thanks! Yeah amazin how all the "thats cute" sh** is really expensive lol

The galley will probably be done last...Im gettin torn up about where to stick my air conditioner cause the tongue is gettin heavy lol. I can barely lift it, so Im guessin Im a little over 15%, well I need to weight the trailer and the tongue already. Im guessing its a little over 1000 lbs, I just need to get her weighed, but its suposed to rain saturday and drivin in the rain is not my favorite thing, so probably next weekend. I do have to make an under trailer mount for the spare tire under the galley box, so that might make an improvement, and addin an air conditioner back there might help too... but then Im addin a little deck on the tongue like steve did... lol

RE: Corner Boards

Postby mezmo » Wed Oct 26, 2011 9:43 pm

Hi Deryk,

The corbels that droid ca is talking about, are decorative upside-down
"L" shaped brackets used as supports for shelves, projections and such.

The corner trim you're speaking of have always been referred to as
'corner boards' in my experience - but I'm sure there must also be other
names for them.

Anyway, I recently saw an idea, on the forum here, for corner boards that
is very clever. I can't recall where though!!! They suggested using the
square vinyl fence covers that are put over PT 4x4s etc to make them
look like white painted posts etc.. They just split them on two opposite
corners on a table saw to give them two "L" shaped pieces. They then
siliconed them in place for a very water tight covering of the corner. If
you don't want or need the 1x4 texture/dimension for the corners this may
work for you. I'm guess it'd be a bit lighter too.

'Just thought I'd pass it along.

Cheers,
Norm/mezmo

Thanks Norm, I did contemplate it but already have the 1x4's and want to keep the trim all the same thickness/size I guess I could throw an anchor back there to lighten the tongue lol

Just got the new hitch on today Image Just need 1 longer case hardened bolt for the safety chain. I added a 1.5" by 1/4" thick piece of steel on the lower side of the tongue to keep it from flexing... Hope it works lol

Well I got the 2 front corner pieces on, couldn't touch up the paint because the boat next to me was sanding on and off all afternoon, so I took it easy today. I do need a tablesaw to trim like a quater inch off of two 1x3's and Im not smooth enough with a circular saw for it to come out looking like a table saw will do it... so delay on that lol, unless I can get it cut at work lol. Image

Im tryin to figure out how to cut the pieces for the front deck. Im shootin for red cedar 2"x6". Gonna need 5 boards, the first one up by the door is going to be 4.5' wide, and taper down to about 16" by the hitch. The cedar should help keep the weight down, and smell nicer then pine lol.

RE: Front Porch

Postby mezmo » Mon Nov 07, 2011 8:21 pm

Hi Deryk,

Check out Steve Cox's Vardo [that Catoosa Granny now owns]. He did
a semi circular front deck for it [I think he also rounded over the edges] that
looks sharp and very functional. It looks nice and inviting I think, plus it
has a good amount of usable room on it.

Just decide the radius to use and line up all your boards by size to fit it and
you can then mark out the semicircular line and cut it out either board by
board or keep them together and cut it as a unit.

Cheers,
Norm/mezmo

Hello!

Well it is a thought to do it sort of rounded since I found out the HD by me sells 2x6x12 foot red cedar decking, like $23 a board, but the weight is alot less then the pine 5/4 I was looking at. Ive been thinking of more triangular, dont want it too big (heavy... although movin the spare tire into the galley box has lightened the tongue a bit, once I move the 5k ac unit there it should lighten it even more!

Its gettin closer and closer to being done!

Deryk/Norm,

Just a note about my circular porch which is made of treated pine.... It is heavy, weighing in at 65 pounds. I like the thought of redwood

I regret moving my axle back as far as I did. The next one will only be 2/3rds back, not about 3/4ths....I could keep my rock collection back there... or a 5 gallon jug of water lol.

I'm hopeing a small cedar deck won't add too much weight up front... I also have a rubbermade tub of tools in my cabin which isn't helping either lol.

Well right about now Droid, the box would be a big letdown lol...its all supplies etc. I don't have a garage to work out of, so its mostly tucked away back there.

I do need to install my dc panel, since I do have one lol
