Outstanding....a rolling vardo. I just hope you get some camp time in it before you sell that one too. :D

Have fun at your event.

Tell the truth Deryk...you are probably mulling ideas for number three. :)

Thanks Guys! Yeah the light at the end of the tunnel is in sight... thank god lol.

And yeah I do have thoughts of a 3rd one lol. Im thinking now just my opinion if your not gonna sleep widthwise, more then say 5.5 feet is more then enough space... next one is gonna be longer and thinner... I did notice useing the purlins a slight sag in the roof in the middle area not much but a little. Perhaps Steve's laminated arches might be a bettter way to go next time... although if the roof is long and tall enough a little sag in the middle might look interesting lol. I think I liked workin with the paulownia better, and it smelled a little nicer when cut them mdo plywood. Well lets see what happens lol

Well, working hard as always! I got the inside varnished, still need to trim it out, especially around the door to weatherproof it. I got the side skirting on. Image time for a table saw, so back to my friends house after picking up a few pieces of 1x4's ... Image I wish I had my own shop, but what can ya do? Image

I talked with 3 of my friends who are more experienced at stenciling, about doing some celtic knotwork on the yellow trim to give it some pizzazzz. Probably wont happen till the spring with fall coming up on us so fast. I still have to add some 1x4 "L" shaped corner pieces like I did on my first lil vardo, as well as the trim around the door. I didnt get as much done this weekend, had to work OT on saturday (yay), and next sunday is my dad's birthday. November 12th is my groups biggest party of the year, so It will be done in time for that... I get to set it up in a prime spot the weekend before lol, so everyone can walk past it and be amazed.

A friend asked me the same question my mom did with the first build... where did you get plans? So do most people draw everything out design wise or just kinda wing it? Ive pretty much always just ran scenarios through my head till it seems to be ok then do it. So what was your building style?

Deryk,

I love the colors...and the curved roof too. Looks great! I bet it is mighty comfy too.

Take care,
Tom

Thanks Tom, yeah I wanted something eye catching.... hopefully no one will miss it while Im towing it lol. Ive spent a couple nights in it and I slept like a baby. Im real happy with the futon I got for it, its just thick enough to support my fat butt, and not aproblem folding it into the couch for daytime hanging out.

I was talking with a guy at my marina and he is really wanting to build some kind of trailer for him and his wife and 1yo, they do alot of music festivals and tent camping sucks but doesnt want anything too big so he gets stuck in the rv sections surrounded by generators... there is a plus to staying small lol. I think I want to hit a few of those next summer too... nothin like live music!

deryk

And Zach, yup this spring/summer I hope to run into you and a few other local members!

She tows very well behind my rav4. I took her a week and a half ago on a 300 some mile trip, 8 miles of it was on a dirt road up a mountain(and down again) I took a hit on gas because the vardo is taller and wider then my suv, went from 21mpg to 17, but thats not too bad. I did 70mph on the highway and didnt even know it was there.

I agree with Zboom. Loud and proud and looks like fun. The celtic stuff you talked about sounds cool too.

What are the L-shape pieces that you mention? I was looking at Vardo-One and am not sure exactly what you mean. I like the idea of some Celtic detailing!!

I think some decorative gingerbread trim would look sweet underneath the eaves of the roof! I know Lowe's has some decorative trim, but haven't really looked too closely at it.
