Robbins' Nest

I have a 5x8 Benroy woody 75% done. I have the fun interior fixings to complete. I used a HF heavy duty frame, which I lengthened by 18" in the front so I could attach a big pirates chest. It also evened out the weight distribution because I did not change the axel location.

Below is a picture of her first camping trip. The exterior is done with three coats of Raka epoxy. It only has one door and was used for a utility trailer. No sleeping inside yet.

Below is a recent camping picture with oak trim added and 3 additional coats of Flagship varnish. We now have two doors. The interior is still just a shell though.

Future plans involve a folding rear bunk for our daughter. We are going to fit three inside. We like to cook and hang out by the picnic table and fire pit. We will probably only use the galley for quick lunch preparation while traveling, but time will only tell.

The trailer base overlaps the trailer by 6" on each side. I build standard boxed fender wells over the wheels. The fenders are 8" wide so they stick out an additional 2". I then cut a radius along the plywood sides so the fenders were flush with the sides. I used VW bug fender beading in the gap. I used stainless steel screws and fender washers for installation. I also used a couple of nuts and bolts.

I'm finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I have the interior roughed out. I have a really simple galley arrangement. I built a fold down galley that turns into a bunk. I'm hoping this will work for our daughter until she gets too tall.

Here is a picture of the galley folded up for cooking and travel. There will also be a sliding shelf above the top edge of the galley wall. It will slide forward so our daughter doesn't bump her head.

Here is a picture of the galley down:

The whole arrangement can also be unbolted and taken out so I can use the trailer to haul stuff. I don't have a truck so it has to do double duty. I'm hoping I won't need to convert it too often.

That is one sweet looking trailer. The exterior shine is incredible. How did you manage that?

It looks like a great job, so far, and you're pretty close to done. I especially like the picture of it in the redwoods, in your signature line. It looks right at home.

The idea of being able to unbolt the galley so that the trailer can serve double purposes is very clever. I would assume that this also means that you could use the galley separately from the trailer, putting it wherever you want it, right?

Sharon,

I wish I had thought of the idea of using the galley outside of the tear! I didn't think it out that far, but that is a great idea.

The exterior finish is 3 coats of Raka epoxy and 3 coats of Flagship varnish. It turned out great, except for a few places where you can see brush strokes if your in the right light. Once the dust of camping settles on it you are hard pressed to see the flaws, but I know they are there. It was really hard to just stop and leave well enough alone.

Gorgeous teardrop. I love that bright finish and I'm sure that no one could locate the flaws except you. Great job!!

:applause:  :applause:

Wonderful teardrop! Simply gorgeous. To me, there is some aesthetic quality of a woody teardrop that cannot be topped. You ought to be very proud of yourself!

Take care,
Tom

Agree with Rand.....It is a beaut and I really like the folding bunk idea. Also like how you can use it as a hauler if the need arises. Clever.
