Cutthroat Tracker begins

Postby Cutthroat Tracker » Sat Aug 25, 2012 9:56 am

I have started to build my trailer. I had the frame fabricated at Iron Forge in Denver, picked it up about two weeks ago and have started the build. I am going to build a woody based on the Kuffle Creek 10' Comet plans. The teardrop feaver hit me fast and I have spent an enormous amount of time searching the net and reading as I start my build. This site has been the go to place for answers.
The look I am going for is a light wood side with dark trim and found this example: http://www.rvtravel.com/blog/rvshortsto ... ering.html.

I then found woodbutchers, Slowmobile build journal. That changed everything in terms of the sequence of the build. I will try to emulate his workmanship and hope my teardrop comes out even close to the Slowmobile.

So, as the song goes, "I am on my way, don't know where I am going..."

Progress on my build continues, although at a slower pace than I imagined. Since my last post I completed the sides, finished them with five coats of finish and cut the trim, all of which I figured was easier with them off the trailer. Sides are mounted, bulkhead is in, as is the interior framing. I am now working on the electircal. I have the pigtail from the TV run to a panel, and all my trailer lights and electircal break circuts about done. I will also be adding a WFCO 8735 converter and will run only tow 120 V circuts, one for battery charging and one for outlets. Electrical is not my strong suite. Luckily, my Brother-in-law is a wiz at it and he will be checking it all before I cover anything up. With luck, I should have all this done this week and be ready to install side insulation and interior walls.

Here are somp pictures of progress since my last post.

Any comments, suggestions or thoughts are always welcome

My build continues, I have finished installing the rought electrical and have built the front closet frame which includes my electrical closet. I have started the closet doors and should have them done this weekend. My build got thrown for a loop today, as we got word that my Brother-in-Law died today. Jerry was a great guy who started me fly fishing and was always a friend, he will be missed. The wife leaves tomorrow to see her sister. I will go to Idaho for the Memorial Service next week. For now there will be a dead soldier in his name. Thinking of dedicating the Teardrop in his honor, but not sure what I would change. Jerry was a guy who worked all his career to keep the native fish in the U.S. from extinction. perhaps the best thing I can do is advocate for the cause and catch a few native fish (caught and released, of course) in his honor.

I feel like hell

Well despite the grief in our family, I got a lot done on the trailer this past week. Both the front and rear closets in the cabin are framed and the doors built. I had my electrical examined by my other brother- and-law today and all is well. Now I can add the interior walls, install the spars start on the top. This will have to wait until we return from the funeral. I will post more pictures when I have that done.
