225's Teardrop!!!

Postby 225 » Tue Oct 23, 2012 5:12 pm

Original thread: HERE.

I am starting another thread because the first camper got the axe due to divorce. So it was trashed....

Everything I ever built, there was always a gray area of a build. Including cost, time, effort, etc....

My Yamaha is a great example of that. So was the first attempt at my teardrop build. So this time I am going to document EVERYTHING on this build. To see how much time, and money it really costs. In addition to all that, I will be doing a time lapse video of the progress as well. So you guys will be able to physcially see what I'm doing.

Just for reference, I am using a guide to build my teardrop camper. So this is not a 100% custom design. But I am not following the guide except as a guideline of how to construct the actual camper. The guide can be found HERE.

Not including the cost of the welder I am using to build the frame, or tools I need to buy. Unless the tool is specific to the job.

I didn't buy the wheels because I haven't quite made up my mind on that yet. But I FINALLY ordered the axles today. I bought them off eBay.

Image

Cost: $260.92

TCI (total cost involved): $260.92

Date start: 10/22/12 (still at work, but first $$$ spent)

Here are the wheels I have been looking at:

#1
Cragar Square D Window Set of 4: $231.19 + free shipping

Image

#2
Cragar Delux 69 Black Steel Set of 4: $223.63 + free shipping. Center caps not included. And they cost: $164.95 + shipping.

Image

#3
US Wheel 52 Series Chrome Smoothie: $328.75 + free shipping

Keep up the good work looks like you have all a guy could want to put into it tho you could get a way with one stereo and put speakers on switches to cut off outside ones when inside and to cut off inside when when someone inside don't want them on.

Thanks for the advice. I am currently sitting here at work trying to figure out a design for the profile. I am using a one off design that Tom, aka aggie79, did on his TD. It will look different. But will probably be the same profile.

Thanks Tom!

I like the list. I just started my build this weekend and am using a spreadsheet to list everything too. The trick is to get every receipt entered even the little things, it all adds up. I'm using Mike's build guide as well. It's very comprehensive and a must read, especially for a newbie like me.

Which $300 side tent are you going with?

Marine starter batteries are not deep cycle batteries and will not not give the same service. Other choices look good though you might want to consider a Progressive Dynamics power center.

Small update.......

Axles came in today. I work offshore so, I don't get in until the 5th.

So I have been debating about the profile. I really love Aggie79's profile. But I am on the fence. And I'll tell you why. I ride motorcycles. And I kind of want to do something the same, but different. My buddy and I are cooking up a plan.

I dunno yet.

Pricing updates:

Aluminum skin - 4'x10'x 0.040: $48.30 a sheet. NON-anodizied. Mill finish. Which is ok, because I am covering it anyway.

Square tubing 2"x2"x1/8"x20': $45 a piece.

Haven't bought it yet, because I am researching them a little more. But I need a tongue box to put this a/c in:

Since I am doing a military type themed TD. I am thinking of something like this:

Military theme huh? How bout a turret on top that launches cans of beer? Just kidding. I dig the wheels though!
