We decided to open up the other side by adding another door. Yes, it may see BIG, but so glad we went for it. I wanted to keep the existing wood and window and repurpose, so that made the task a bit more complex.
We started by sitting side by side and measuring how wide we were across -- you know so we could pull up to a beautiful location, open up the teardrop and sit side by side and enjoy the view. We then measured Andy's long torso for the height, taking into account that we would be building a frame.
Once we got our measurements, we built a cardboard template with the size. I used the other door as a template for the corners so they would match. We opened up both ways to see which way worked best. Finally Andy said to just mark the door, and I did.
We cut out the door using a jigsaw. We shimmed along the way so the "door" didn't sag. We managed to cut in 1 piece, with only 1 small goof.
We then framed out the door, sanded and primed and painted. We then sanded and primed the inside of the new door and added hardware to match the door on the other side. We also added a chain lock for more ventilation if we want to open the door at night.
We took our TD to Lake Skinner and met up with the Tear Jerkers of so cal and had a great time.
Having the big door was great. No bumped heads, easy in and out access. It was great and so was the bacon . It was worth some of the head bumps and kicking a sharp tool with no shoes on!

More photos to follow..... next project a Galley!!!!! Yikes!!
