New Kit Style build

Postby prohandyman » Sun Nov 04, 2012 6:24 am

Been thinking for awhile about building another Kit teardrop. Something to tow behind my '48 Chevy truck. Not really a regular user as the wifey likes camping in the Touring Lodge. I first thought I wanted it to look fairly correct, but now thinking maybe a wood sided version. Thanks to Len Dadonna I have a Kit axle, which allows me to use the original style Kit fenders I have. I have a stove and horizontal propane bottle for the period look, and also have the dimensions for bending up a new Kit style tongue, to use with an original Fulton coupler. I also have an old center mount taillight and plate mount, very early style marker lights, 2 original style windows and a reproduction ice box. The original frames were 1x2 channel, so I can weld up a frame that will look old school even though it cannot be seen. Oh and I have a pair of early Ford wire wheels that I can use with the axle. Thinking of white wall tires also.
Here is a couple of pics I found to give me brain fodder...

Good deal Dan...sounds like you are at least gathering up some parts for it. And, hey....a vintage Kit is always a crowd pleaser. Your craftsman approach will make it a real looker! Good luck on your build if you decide to pull the trigger on it. Doug

PS...can't go wrong with whitewalls.....
