Over the wheel RT Build

Postby len19070 » Sat Jan 26, 2013 12:51 pm

Started a new trailer this week.

Its going to be a Rear Entrance, an over the wheel build with a dropped floor at the rear and a Roll out kitchen in the rear as well.

66" wide 8'6" long and the box will be 4 1/2 to 5 foot tall.

Saw this profile years ago, Don't know who's it is, from the windows it looks European but I always liked it.

This trailer will probably turn out very similar.

One thing I do like about a Rear Entrance is that with a slightly forward sloped roof...You can have the door covered and still have a 10X10 area to do things in....with only 1 EZ-UP???

Now for the real question?

If it has a Galley with a lift up hatch in the rear. Is 5' wide, and you can't stand up in it......will this be a Teardrop?

Yep Len. Getting in and out of the rear door of my Decotear and into the "screened living room" is one of the best things about it. That and the wide door for rolling my bikes in and out.
I look forward to seeing your progress.

Finished up the rear dropped floor area this morning.

Next some under the deck wiring, then the decking.

the drop is awesome idea, thats the worse thing about my build is the entry being so high at the rear. Cant mod it though as my black water tank it across at the rear....

Thanks!

I finally got to sit on the deck today with my feet in the "Pit"

My original thoughts was to be able to sit semi comfortably and put my shoes on in the morning and to have a place to store my shoes at night...Inside!

The second was to not bring a lot of extra equipment. The rear door eliminates a second EZ-UP.

Looking nice.

Will your sides just sit on the top for the platform or over the side?

Thanks, JB

I had to stop work for a while as my shop doubles as a meeting hall for several activities...it cleans up real good though.

But early this week the sides will be one of the next things I do.

I never put the sides on top on a HF frame. With gluing/screwing plywood to the side you get a perfect opportunity to make the box and frame one. A Uni-Body to steal a Detroit term. And as this being a Rear Door an Almost a full sheet of Un-Broken (the side doors) Plywood will stretch the entire length.

As well I hate to see that HF frame peeking out.

Great shop.

I believe I read that the Benroys style has a 6 inch radius on the bottom skirts. I going to make sure to hide
my frame when I start my build.

Love the cabinets. are you a member of any woodworker's guild?

Just installed this after work.

This works and looks so much better than that "Chinese Knuckle" that HF gives you. (and for only $10 more)

Didn't get as much done as I had hoped this weekend...Had a "Snow Day" here back East.

But!

Did all the under deck trailer wiring, insulation and decking. Cut out the first profile.

Image

As my neighbor put it "It wasn't as "Swoopy Lookin" as my other trailers."

So I changed things,

Image

It should look better once the 5" Skirting below deck is in.

I think it looks awesome. I've been checking all weekend to see if you had posted more pics. Really looking forward to see the rear door and inside. Keep the pics coming. Where did you find that hitch?
