New Vardo-ish build

Postby c139 » Sat Feb 02, 2013 1:16 pm

Long time lurker, first build. I just picked up the trailer today and have a hitch on order for my van.

And, since y'all like pictures...

There's even some sawdust there. (Sadly, not from the impending trailer project, but still...)

Welcome to the forum....I love the vardo style that's what brought me here in the first place...there are lots of great threads for you to research from of some terrific vardo build

I've got a pretty good idea of what I want. I'm going 6 foot wide, 10 foot long, which will mean building out over the wheels and extending forward and back a bit. I plan on putting the galley at the back in the form of a cupboard, with the door over the tongue. Throw a window on either side, and we're set. Not exactly sure how the roof is going to shape up yet, though. I'm thinking of several rib spars, with furring strips to cover them and then a rubber sheet over that for waterproofing. I plan on doing winter camping, so insulation is going to be a must.

One thing I'm thinking about to make the build a bit cheaper is using OSB for the floor. How well has that worked out for people? Is it durable enough to handle long term exposure to the road? (with a healthy amount of sealant, of course...)

I’m liking it already and all I see is wheels, trailer frame and saw dust on the floor!

If I has some land can I can park one as a summer get-a-way house, I’d build me a nice big Tandem wheel
trailer Gypsy Trailer with all the trimmings. Also like a two part roof. Half solid, half roll back canvas. I
can’t imagine towing it around everywhere but would just park it and move it if neede for repairs.
