Campster 12

Postby Greg Barrick » Tue Feb 05, 2013 7:00 pm

Hi everyone,
(try this again) I finally settled on my new design TT, have (almost) every dimension on graph paper and have started making sawdust! It will be a campster 12, kinda looking TT. The lower front radius will go straight down, and it will be using plywood outside, 1x2 for studs and paneling inside. (kinda like my old cubby)
Anyway, I'm in Northern Indiana, (on Michigan line) so we have snow and it's too cold to work in the barn. So I drug alot of s--t to the basement to be cut & fit. I finished my outside sidewalls today and fit my door and windows and ripped a bunch of 2x4 to 1x2.
The trailer sits in the barn, painted and the rear 1/2 of the floor is on & sealed. The front half of the floor is dropped, wood is cut, but I need to weld 2 more floor supports, then seal, drill & screw it all together. (when it warms a bit) This was an old pop-up camper frame that I got from a guy using it as a flatbrad for hauling his kids 4 wheelers.
Because of my location, trailer parts are fairly affordable. I have friends and reletives that work for RV manufactures and there are a few RV salage yards in the area. But I'm old & cheap, so I scrounge alot. Anyway, I should have 4x6 sheets of light oak paneling coming for the interior.($2/sheet) Possibly a rubber roof in the spring. (havn't decided) I was given a damaged 2 yr old pickup camper. This has 2 showers. One inside and one outside. A water storage tank, hot water heater, table, water pump, 2-14" roof fans, a skylight, 2 new LED interior lites, outside lite, 120V converter, new cable, 3 burner SS stove, porta-poti, and the like. I'm only keeping the stove, 14" fans, 12 v lites, cable and converter and possibly the porta-potti and skylight. I'll give the rest to my step son for his horse trailer.
I need too "get er done" ASAP. The wife & I are planning to take it for about a 2 week vacation the 3rd week of May. Indiana to Wyoming, thru N. Montana and back thru Colorado and Missouri etc. Hope it stays together & doesn't leak!
Having a ball building it! Really had a great time with my 1st one. (Made a few OOPS with that one. Hope not so many with this one) The wife and I really enjoyed our Cubby. It cost us almost 1/2 MPG on the highway. Went from 22.5 mpg to 22 mpg. I can live with that! That's part of the reason I want this minimalistic. Light and easy on the car. Saves me $100 +/nite on a motel. Gotta stove and a cooler. Fresh food at any market. Gotta bed and I do have a shower tent, for the wife. But most any campgrounds has a shower. I do carry a plastic tub for a sink bath if needed or doing dishes plus a 6 gallon water jug for dishes/ washing. Life is good!
