A simple 4X4X8 Harbor Freight Frame Tear

Postby len19070 » Wed Mar 20, 2013 2:12 pm

I started a new Tear Monday. Narrowed and assembled a new frame to 46 1/4" wide.

This is going to be a simple 4X4X8' build on a Harbor freight Frame.

ImageImage

Cut the Profiles, built the deck, Tarred the bottom and mounted the deck & sides to the frame.

ImageImage

Tomorrow I'll insulate and lay the deck, Start laying some Rug, assemble and rug the interior ceiling panel and hopefully install it.

Happy Trails

Len

Len, I look forward to watching your build. I would be really interested in how much a very basic tear costs to build.

Same as the others, I'm watching for the simplicity. Want to build a tear for a friend and I'm looking for the base they can update and add to as they want.

What are your plans for electrical and galley?

A 4' wide tear always needs a custom mattress. 48" is not a standard mattress width.

I make all sleeping areas 75" long.

But, Joann Fabrics sells 3-4" foam 24" wide reasonably. And there are several other foam mattress options available.

Got right where I wanted to today.

ImageImage

Deck laid and insulated, floor and side Rug in, ceiling panel built/rugged and even installed.

Got a lot of catch up work for tomorrow, wiring, trailer, interior lights & fan, install the "A" hitch head and Jack and a small piece of the ceiling in the front.

I have a 12V light over the Galley and am running a heavy (10 ga) fused 12V wire to the rear for what ever.

For 110V I giving a "Hole" through the exterior wall to run an extension cord through. How's that for Simple.

Got the outside sheathed, insulated and wired for inside 12V.

Image

Started some work on the hatch area.

Image

And set up the "A" frame hitch.

Image

Tomorrow I just have to take a step back and think of everything I have to do before the Aluminum skin goes on.

Not much visible work done recently.

I painted the frame.

Image

And sheathed the sides of the galley.

Image

A lot of "Gettin Ready" for other stuff goin on.

Laid out the doors, made the templet for the hatch, worked on the hatch hinge, fixed a couple of Boo-Boo's, reset some screws that didn't want to cooperate.......

Going to try and finish up all the dirty work tomorrow so I can clean this joint up...the hatch and the doors, all the work on the saw etc.

then its on to Aluminum and Brake work.

The moldings are coming in Wed, I have the roof and I hope to have it weatherized by the weekend.

Happy Trails

Wow! kudos for bringing the sides down over the frame, and your well laid out plan shows by how fast you have put it into place!

No offense to anyone...But I have always thought that a 4' tall "Box" on top of a frame looked like a little "Top Heavy"

And I have always believed, that there is Life below the frame! And that your frame is not a show piece.

ImageImage
viewtopic.php?f=50&t=54252

All my 4X8 builds have been 44" tall (actually making them 44X96" builds)...even this. It makes them look a little longer and sleeker.

Sit on a chair and measure from your butt to your head. 40" interior height is more than enough.

Of course you have to make the frame narrower to allow the sides to go over, But even that doesn't take that long or involve that much work.

Thanks for the kind words.

Installed 95% of the siding, laid the rubber roof, trimmed the door openings and started some trim.

I hope to have it weatherized by Sunday.

BTW, I found some wheel covers that fit 12" Harbor Freight wheels, there from a Chevy Sprint. The name of the car they will fit is important. If you ask for a wheel cover for a specific Car they will have them....If you ask for a set for a trailer they'll tell you they don't sell wheel covers for trailers!
