KIT Replica UK Finished!, New pics in thread

Postby webbaldo » Tue May 07, 2013 4:06 am

How do, im a bit picture shy of my project, but this weekend I managed to get my teardrop road tested (well for 10 miles anyway)

I was particularly nervous as its the first full chassis (minus axle) that I've welded up. My friends a fitter and he reckons the welds are OK anyway.

My friends helped me lift the teardrop body round the front of our house (built it in the garden shed). Anyway it pulls fine and true, even up a couple of steep banks! Tested it for around ten miles in total. And got a few strange looks at the Petrol station!

The Fiat 500 is a 1.2 petrol and is rated to pull 400kg unbraked or 800kg braked. My trailer weighs in at roughly 280kg.

Just need to fit the windows into the doors, and some wheel trims and itll be nearly finished!

Webbaldo,

Now that looks really great. Top job.
How did the lift go, no injuries ?
Love the Fiat. We tow ours with a 1.4 L Hyundai Getz. Our TD is a wee bit heavier than yours.
I had one of the original Fiat 500s many years ago. Churned out 13HP as I recall, I think 7 of the horses worked and the rest had loose shoes judging by the lack of power and the noises it made.
You enjoy the wee beastie ! It be a credit to you. Lovely work.

Many thanks!, no injuries!, just a few scrapes off the walls of the house and fence (myself not the TD!)

This fiat pushes out 69bhp

I love the old 500's as well but they cost a fortune now.

Lovely job webbaldo, you must be very proud. I hope I end up with something half as good as that. I particularly like the relief patterning on the sidewalls, really makes it stand out as it is so unusual, is it hand beaten?

Hi there, thanks for your comments. No its actually just a dodgy camera angle.

Firstly I give DMCcam (the guy building the ATMA Travelear) full credit for the design of the striping, I just modified it.

Its standard aluminium cope moulding, screwed on to the walls (with a lot of silicone in the screw holes first)

Just cut and shaped with a standard 4inch grinder with 1mm cutting blades and a grit flap disc.

The bit above the door is 'J' moulding as a rain trap.

Its ok, my photo skills aren't great. A few people have thought the TD is longer than the car due to the viewing angle of the last photos

Heres a more side on view

That's our dog Percy, he's a Jack Russell/Collie cross. I know, weird :?

He is the size of a Jack Russell but has the soft fur and intelligence of a collie. (Sheep dog)

Webbaldo,

Really is nice work.
Ya gotta be happy with that.
Good looking dog is Percy, Collie and Russell cross would have to be a handful.
We have a Jill Russell, the shaggy variety. Too clever for its own good.

Take it easy.
