Gentlemans Getaway

Postby Yankeeka » Fri May 10, 2013 4:15 am

It has been several years since I posted my last build and I have since moved on to another teardrop build. My intention was to design/build a Gentlemans Getaway that was still very rugged and contained all of the survival amenities that I wanted as well as all the creature comforts that I use for tailgates and family gatherings. Think of the design intent as a Land Rover...very plush on the surface but still very capable when put to the test.

Some general information on the materials:

The entire project is sits on a custom built 5'x8' frame that I designed and fabricated to transplant a Jeep suspension and Dexter 3500lb axle onto. It has underfloor storage and is layered with expanded metal to protect the underside during wheeling. The axle was setup to run the same lug pattern as my Jeep so that they will look similar when the trailer is finished.

The shell was a custom design I did in sketchup and took a few designs to get everything to fit; it is generally made out of marine grade plywood and poplar that is treated with spar urethane or West system epoxy. All surfaces are insulated, lapped and calked for 100% water protection.

Amenities include (but not limited to):

Onboard compressed air system
A/C Cooling and heating
Solar PV charging
15A and 30A service
Full actuated galley door with remote control
(2) LED TV
Xbox
Apple TV
3000 Watt Marine grade stereo system (if you want specifics feel free to ask)
Beer Tap system with remote controlled telescoping tap
Under Trailer LED lighting system
Bamboo Flooring
Maple hardwood drawers with Stainless hardware
60" Roof Rack with exterior lights and backup camera

I am nearing completion on the the project so I have quite a few build pictures to upload so stay tuned for updates. Until then enjoy the progess up to now....if you have any questions on materials or design or anything feel free to ask. Thank for looking

Warm Regards,
Kris

Thank you; hopefully it will be completed in a few months. Love your Jeep and trailer!

As you looking through you might notice some items were moved or omitted; the cooker was moved as well as the switch plate I had installed. This was quite the exercise is weight balance and space management so things got shifted as it went from 3D to real-D.

WOW, nicely done, you have some skills! There should be no reason to ever go home once this trailer is done!

Awesome build. There are certainly some nice toys there....i love the tap. But after spending the past week living in mine with nearly daily sustained rain and storms, I'd rather have a galley and dry storage than the electronics...

Yeah I understand peoples need for storage space; I just never end up using what I build into the trailer because I never really stow anything within the galley. Both of my tow vehicles are large and 2 60qt Yeti coolers and the underfloor storage house more than what I need usually....so on this one I figured I would integrate all of the things that are not so easy to transport.

That's true. I think of my trailers as a bug-out-trailer....and don't assume I have a lot of space in my TV. Jeep Libertys aren't know for cargo area anyway....but those are my needs :)

Love the tap....I really do!

I figured when the apacolypse hits, there is no reason not to have cold beer on tap! Thanks for your comments

Wow, you're talkin' my kind of language on that galley build. What kind of a stereo are you using in the galley? Post a link, I think I have to have one.
