2bits 2nd standy

Postby 2bits » Mon May 13, 2013 10:12 am

I don't have any idea what to call this one. I call my other 10 foot standy "The Prowler" because that's what it is and it's a cool name. I don't think "Play-mor" is as fun to say, so I'll think of name later. My mom used this camper to take breaks in while they were working on their land before their house was built and it has been sitting in their field for 15 years. She gave it to me last year and I finally have a place to put it and a way and the time to get it home. Happy Mother's day to me, I am a father of three...

It barely fit on my trailer. The trailer is 77" wide and the camper is 77" wide! I used a come along and literally squeezed it in with ZERO clearance! The sides aren't white, they actually are white with a green woodgrain finish, it is pretty neat looking. If I need to do a full teardown, which I think I will need to, I am wanting to bring the rear of it down just a little bit so it has more of a teardrop shape to it. Just glad it's finally home

Congrats on the new addition Thomas!

Hey, if there's a will there's a way, glad you were able to get it to your homestead.

Thank you Earl! My mom said she was so impressed that I was such a competent person because it did NOT want to go onto that trailer! LOL

Some interior pics. The headliner is definitely pretty ratty, but the rest actually looks OK , but it is ALL going to the dump! The waviness in the pic is me
not doing a good job making a panorama pic)...

Hi 2bits,

Are you still using this one as the base for this ? :

The thread sorta morphed into discussion about A-Frame houses
later, but it started out as your Standy idea.

Cheers,

You could always just call it "Mamma's place". Your little camp ground is coming along nicely.

Norm, Wow you are good! I forgot about that thread! It is funny because the shower example I had posted on there just happened to be the exact kind of shower that I found on craigslist the other day for the camper, so yes this is the same trailer and the same idea! I decided that I am going to gut it down to the "studs" and evaluate, but I feel pretty confident that this will be a full teardown because I want it to be a quality build and the Prowler (my other standy) will just be a rebuild from the inside for time's sake to be usable by LCG, and there's always my teardrop if I don't make it in time. both the Prowler and this one will have the same floor plan, very simple and to the point: Bed, shower, sink, closet...

Bill, That's a neat idea! reminds me of that old TV show too, so "Mama's Place" would be period correct haha! and thank you, it took three years, but everything came together!

I got the camper unloaded last weekend with my faithful assistant. Today I decided to get after it because I need to decide which one to rebuild over the summer to be able to camp in the fall. So last weekend I gutted the Prowler and today at lunch I gutted "Mama's Place" of everything except the walls. Took 45 min. When I got off work, I pulled off the walls.

I found out that construction methods were similar but the Plat Mor, (todays project) and it was built better but sustained more water damage.

After work, I pulled out all the walls and saw what I had to work with… gonna sleep on it! Here's some pics..

Looks like the bees have moved on.....bummer...no honey! :o

Can anyone tell me how those guys can build structures that are sooooo precise......I bet they didn't use a tape measure to build these honeycomb?
