Schrodinger's Teardrop

Postby Fiferguy » Thu Jul 18, 2013 12:10 pm

So I decided to go ahead and start my build journal, even though I'm not quite ready to actually start the build yet. I'm still in the planning stages (I've got a design on paper at least), and I'll be updating as things happen. :)

Right now, I think my first step is going to be constructing the floor. Probably the easiest part, and easy to store until I can get my trailer frame put together. Just anxious to get started on something. Planning on 1/2" ply sandwiching 1x2 framing and 1.5" EPS foam insulation.

For walls, I'm planning on 3/4 Oak ply, with Wiley-style windows in the doors. On the roof, similar to the floor, but 2x2 ribbing and insulation (not sure what kind yet, but probably EPS) sandwiched between 1/8" ply inside and 1/4" ply on the outside.

What do you all think?

Here's my sketch. It might change some as time goes on, but this is what I'm thinking right now. Image

I hope that you don't plan to put a cat in there.

The dog might be chewing up the mattress or he might not be.

BBT is a new show for me. I worked nights for 30 yrs. When I finally retired 4 yrs ago, I started catching up on all the primetime shows I'd never seen. Cosby, Home Improvement, Frasier, Cheers, Friends and Big Bang Theory among them. BBT is the only current primetime I watch. Everything else is reruns.

I've actually never really watched BBT, because I don't really watch TV.

The name for this particular project came from a very long drive (about 8 hours) for work--somehow we ended up on the subject of the actual thought experiment from Schrodinger, and then moved on to a discussion on travel trailers. I mentioned that I was thinking about building a teardrop, and someone said that I should name it "Schrodinger's Trailer," but I thought "Schrodinger's Teardrop" had a nicer ring to it. ;)

I'm thinking about painting it a glossy white with an accent color on the doors and hatch, and this graphic on both sides: Image

I can appreciate your theme and I get the conundrum of Schrodinger's theory, but I'm a cat lover and some people might be offended by the image of dead cats on the side of your camper. They might not "get it"... might not put 2 and 2 together. Not everyone is a philosopher and/or BBT fan.

Just saying, maybe better to not over personalize; you might decide to move on to the next one someday and dead cats could be a tough sell.

Fair enough. I hadn't really thought about it that way. I don't really understand the Big Bang Theory reference either... I know about Schrodinger through quantum theory.

Maybe I won't put the dead cat on there. Maybe just the name...

On a more build-related note, I finally got my garage cleaned out enough to potentially start building. Maybe next weekend, depending on how hot it is.

BBT is a serial comedy television show surrounding several misfit scientists and their blonde actress wannabe neighbor. Shrodinger's cat paradox was used as a reference on one of the episodes, and had a comeback later on another episode (IIRC).

Most of us simple folk would never know what it was w/o having seen it on the show.

I'm looking forward to your build and hope that I haven't gone too far sideways here in your thread. :D

There are many images you can use for the cat, I do NOT think you want to offend cat lovers. How about this one which contains the formula.
