Matthewp's MuTTT (Multiple Terrain Tactical Teardrop).

Postby matthewp » Sun Oct 27, 2013 4:04 pm

This weekend was all about getting the underbody painted. I used Rustoleum Restore (http://www.rustoleum.com/en/product-catalog/consumer-brands/restore/deck-and-concrete-restore) for the undercoating. I obviously haven't had the chance to abuse it, but it seems very solid on first impression.
.
The good news is I will be able to put the suspension back together this week.
.
Here's a picture of the frame all wrapped up to enable the heater to keep the belly warm enough to properly cure the paint.

Today I finally had the opportunity to pull the chassis out of the garage and take some good pictures (and give the garage a well-needed cleaning!). I call this the completion of phase I. Phase II will be the cabin and exterior, phase III will be the kitchen.
.
Here we go!
.
Here's the rear curbside corner showing the location of the propane output from the tank (up front with the spare tire), a close-up of the propane output, and the rear section of the protected gas line under the trailer.

Also, here is a picture of the water tank drain guard underneath the trailer (first picture is from the front of the trailer, second picture is looking from the rear of the trailer).

Here are the completed cargo storage areas.
.
Rear, which will hold the two side-tables on the outsides of the kitchen area.
Image
.
Passenger side door to the front storage area (4' X 4' X 11"), there is a storage access door on both sides of the trailer. This will be insulated to help the sleeping area keep some warmth.
Image
.
Here is one of the completed wheel chock storage areas (immediately to the front of the wheel-well on both sides.
Image
.
Here is the water tank area. This is a 23 gallon water tank. The metal object on top (with the wires coming from it), by the inspection access is the water gauge sensor.
Image
.
The water pump lies in the back, curbside, under where the refrigerator will sit. There will be access under the fridge in case of need to get to the pump or the electrical void behind the fridge.

Here is the electrical control area. This will house two deep-cycle batteries in addition to all the charging and distribution systems.
Image

Here are the electrical controls: underneath is the 110 volt shoreline charger; on top (clockwise from the upper right) is the main power switch from the battery, the 100 amp circuit breaker (from the batteries), the Blue Sea fuse block, and the Morningstar solar charge controller.
Image
.
Here is the front of the trailer showing the wiring harnesses coming from the trailer (on the left is the trailer light harness, the right is the charger cable from the tow-vehicle to the trailer batteries).
Image
.
That is one big plug! It's the Anderson plug for the tow-vehicle charging.

Nice build, you can tell you've thought a lot about it.

Yes Bruce, about a year and I'm still making adjustments!

Give me a couple days and this will become a wiring harness.

The trailer is looking good. I have finished designing mine and just waiting for the trailer to be completed. As I look through yours, I can see some similarities in both of our designs. Will be watching your build and I look forward to seeing how it comes out. Do you have a sketchup or anything of your design.

Curtis

This is a great build! It is very well thought thru, you must have a lot of off-road experience. I look forward to following your progress and seeing how this one turns out!

I do not have a sketch-up (I'm too old-school, I couldn't visualize things the way I wanted to on the program!). Here's a link to the original design thread on the forum: http://www.tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=52412 (I also added this link to the first post of this thread).

I also have updated design drawings on my computer if there are any more you want to see (IE: The frame drawings have been updated since the "gen-1" drawing on the thread).

More electrical work today. I got the full wiring harness completed and mounted in the trailer. I'm really glad I designed a channel between the sleeping berth and the galley specifically to run wires. This has proven to give me plenty of room for running all the wiring without having to negotiate many obstacles.
.
Here's the harness completed (all wire is protected in plastic loom and all end-points have interlocking connectors for the accessories. I ensured every point is marked numerically to avoid confusion later on. Each circuit is also individually colored to make identification easier.

(This is obviously before it is installed!)
.

.
I also started on my control box for the side of the trailer. This will house the shore-line connection, the water level gauge and an ammeter.

.
I will be taking a pause during the holiday season due to finances. The next phase requires an initial $2000 for start-up. The financial manager informed me that expense will have to wait until Christmas is over. I will be doing some small work to keep me busy.

Boy I get that! I am in the same boat except I am my own financial manager. I do have a lot of things I can do with out money over the next month or so though.

Great work you are doing, I am getting some good ideas for my electrical project.
