Superleggera my way (pic heavy)

Postby Kullas » Sat Mar 01, 2014 10:45 pm

So the madness begins. I have wanted to build a teardrop for a long time and i started today.
I used a HF trailer. After getting it together i painted the 3/4" treated ply with 2 cotes of black beauty post treatment and bolted to the trailer with 11 3/8" bolts. So far so good.
I started cutting out the side walls out of 1/2" ply and man they was looking good got both walls done including the door cut outs. Went to install the walls and realized I had messed up  The trailer is 8' and the bottom of the side wall is 6" short due to the bottom radius on the front side wall :x so off to the box store and 2 more sheets of ply. o well i guess its a start on my next one. By this time it was getting late. I got started around 12 today so i got a late start. tomorrow is a full day i guess i will see how much i get done. pics to follow.

Unfortunately no 10' stuff around here to be had. So im just going to recut the sides just leaving off the bottom curve so it will fit the trailer

Here is a pic after the outer skin is on. For some reason it looks like the outer skin is cracked but its not. Its the paint on the panel.

With the top skin on it was time to start on the galley

All in all it was a very productive day. The sleeping area is 6'6" to give me a little toe wiggle room for my toes. I know it takes a little storage room from the galley but my toes will feel better :) . When i get to work on it again maybe next weekend, i am going to add a storage area in the cabin behind the galley and get to work on the hatch lid and side doors. when i get them installed and good to go i will install the windows. I didn't install a vent on top due to a bad experience on a camper i had before. The windows im installing lets up and has a screen. Then time for some waterproofing.

I got some time this weekend to work it some more. Things really slowed down building the hatch and doors. pics to follow

Hi: Your really making great time with your build, looks good. Are you working from an actual plan or winging it? I'd like to copy some of your thoughts but I don't have the imagination to fill in the details. Mike
