My Build in Colorado 2.0 REBOOT,

Postby MrMatt » Sat Apr 05, 2014 5:25 pm

So I have been excited to get started back up on my tear build. I'm using the same trailer base as I did last time. It's the smaller 40x49 HF trailer with a few miles on it. The trailer itself has seen several 1K mile trips hauling everything from camping gear and bicycles to furniture.

The plan this time is a simple traditional teardrop shape. I used the profile tool one of our members designed to decide on a nice design.

Here are pics of what I got done this morning.

I built two storage boxes for under the floor. I'll post a image of the profile I'm building too.

This pic should have been first.

I'm building it with the wheels tucked underneath.

Pardon me, but it appears you will have virtually no tongue length. That will make turning difficult. Or will you be extending the tongue?

Yup, the tongue will be a piece of 2x3 inch steel rectangle tubing. My garage is small so leaving the base short for now just makes it easier to get around it. I plan to have the tongue Steel go to the back of the trailer as well and have the flip down support jack welded to it.

Hi, Matt! Just stopping by to check out your build. It'll be great to watch your progress! I like the under floor storage. Chuck (hubby) wants to do that in our next build, I think...

The thing that made that easy and fast to do was I had an old plywood camping box that the lid had broken off of. My father in law built it for me and we used it many years so it is nice to see the parts get used towards this project even if it does mean me cutting it in half and turning parts of the lid into new sides.

The reason that I cut it into two separate boxes I'd to accommodate the tongue extension fastening all the way back to the rear of the trailer frame.
