Falcons Build, 4x4x8 ft, on a boat tr.update

Postby Falcon » Sun Nov 09, 2014 3:28 pm

This will be my first tear drop, but I have made other things , boats, cars, model airplanes, barns, houses, finish carpentry, as well as framing, I have a wood working shop, welders, my own saw mill, timber. so this will be fun .Its going to be to haul my models to the flying field. an use as a closed in trailer. the main reason is my newly completed Cj5 (1971) 2 year restoration will serve as a good toe car... Please see my personal album to see the progress as it is happening. (little box over to the left)

I just saw your location, we are almost neighbors:))))
I looked over your "WOODY" DAM!!! Thats great looking, very retro. I can see a guy back in the 30s building that in his back yard :)
Have you finished it? if so how does it hold up out in the weather?
I have some cedar I was thinking about sawing up to skin mine with...your thoughts?

Thanks for the compliment,Falcon.I never intended for it to stay in the elements so I can't say how it would hold up.PM sent, check your messages.

I skinned mine with 1/4 inch shiplap cedar fastened with copper boat nails. If used glass and epoxy to tie it all together followed by several coats of spar varnish. I keep mine garaged when not in use. I wouldn't keep a woody outside unless you are prepared for lots of maintenance... think sailboat.

Your trailer frame looks to be in good shape.

What is the reasoning behind the horizontal members in your walls? They don't appear to be adding anything much structurally.

Just curious.

The vertical "members are not installed yet. My trailer will serve as a closed in trailer, that said Ill need to have some shelves. This will give me a strong platform for what ever I want to carry. Its over built,But its just as I build..Also I figured it would let me to use 1/4" ply for the outside skin, with lots of glue area.
