2bits '65 Scotty Sportsman.. "Scotty Rue"

Postby 2bits » Sat Jan 10, 2015 11:31 pm

I have always wanted a 10' scotty sportsman and found one on CL for $800 coming out of a deer lease. After taking photos and walking away from it thinking I wouldn't take it for any price, I looked at the photos and did my best to look through the idiotic paint and overuse of the... "Great Stuff"... I I realized that the interior (Besides the roof and pleasantries) were almost perfect. Also the sides were in good condition (again look under the paint). so we agreed on $200. He would have done a hundred bucks, but the poor guy was about to go to prison and needed the money and I felt it was worth that much after seeing the interior condition. So here we go... After the obligatory flat tire that we get repaired, we stop by again to get the second tire replaced, so now I have a $300 camper with brand new tires.

Since the walls, interior and floors are solid, but the windows are full of that spray foam stuff, I plan to pull, clean and reinstall the door and side windows blast and paint the sides, and completely remove the roof from bumper to bumper and rebuild that from scratch. We'll see how it goes, but for now... Here is the Scotty Rue!

Cool. It will be a challenge, I am sure, but at least you will have another addition to the campground setting you are populating there.

Does that make four, or is it five current campers?

Well, I am resisting posting any pics until tomorrow, I painted the wheels, the aluminum trim and drop rails and then painted the teal on top. Tomorrow I hope to get the lower section done in a light tan. I have a feeling people are gong to ask me if it is even the same camper! I'm still going to tear it down, but thought it couldn't hurt making it look nice. I'll be painting the interior this weekend and flipping the axle so it rides lower.
