I cut out the cabinet faces this evening. Once they were cut I did a lot of staring and thinking. I ultimately decided I didn’t like the way the open cabinets looked. It’s a purely aesthetic choice but I would regret not putting some type of door on the cabinets. So I stared some more and did some more thinking. I settled on sliding doors. I went back and forth on how I would create the rail slides. I decided to route out a channel from a scrap piece of Baltic Birch as a proof of concept. It looks like it will work but I have to pick up a piece of 1/4” birch to make the door faces.

A timely couple of posts. I tried to buy premade sliding door track for my latest build, and could only find white, which I didn't like.
Just having a bite for lunch before heading out to the workshop (that'd be the front yard to the rest of you) to try my hand at machining some grooves in some lumber.
I'm planning to do exactly what Tony does.

When I did the sliding doors for the rear headboard I made them like Tony showed in his image. After seeing them I wondered why the back face of the frame couldn't act as the retaining wall for the front sliding door(s) so when I did the sliders located in the front I tried doing it that way. I liked it better as the doors didn't sit back as far. See illustration. Personal choice, I suppose.

Thanks for the advice guys. I had the same thought as John which is the way I’m leaning. My only concern with the rail I made up last night is that it’s a 1/2”x1/2” strip of baltic birch with a 1/4” track routed in. That leaves me only a 1/4” of surface to glue up the rail. I’ll probably laminate another piece of 1/2” ply on the bottom or make the same piece out of 3/4” birch just to give it a little extra surface area for the glue. The exposed edge of the track is the ply layers of the birch. Similarly the top rail and retaining lip for the top shelf will be the exposed ply layers of the birch laminated flush with the edge of the top shelf. Should make for a nice detail in a galley otherwise lacking them. The lower cabinet face will have some exposed ply layers on them as well.

Welp just got back from a run to the local lumber yard to pick up 1/2" and 1/4" sheets of baltic birch. Silly me, I didn't check the prices before loading up my cart. I almost choked when he told me the total lol. The 1/2" sheet was $150. I thought I was paying inflated prices last summer when I built the trailer and the same sheet was $110.

Prices have started dropping here out west, but still high. I sometimes wander how I'm still working when I'm coding my receipts for work, how is it these people can afford to remodel their houses at these material prices.
A pin knot 2x4x8 cost .69 cents when I started in construction, they have hit as high as $1.98 a foot jobber price back on 20-21

Trailer looks great by the way.
I'll be done when I'm finished, if that's not fast enough, take a number.

We started our remodel on our kitchen a month before the Covid lockdowns started in 2020. I thought $6 a stud was bad at the time. Thank goodness I never had to pay $15 yikes.

Finally got around to finishing off the upper cabinets in my galley. I’m happy with how it turned out. I picked up some interlocking storage dividers and a few other odds and ends to help organize the galley. I still need to install the rod for the spice rack to complete the upper storage area. Next up will be galley drawer faces.

Just about finished up the galley today. I made a sliding drawer for the lower center section. I also cut the drawer faces and mocked them up. I still need to seal them but that will finish up the galley cabinetry.

Looks really nice, Cody.
I like the "clean" look... no knobs, stuff like that.

What are the yellow protrusions sticking out on the lower section drawers... some kind of catch?

Thanks! The styling was at my wife’s request. I was going to put drawer pulls on but she really likes the clean look. The yellow tabs are the locking mechanism for the drawer slides. They latch when closed and also lock the drawer in place halfway out and fully extended.

I think I like those drawer latches, can you share what they are.

I got them from Amazon. There are a few different styles available on there. These are the slides I purchased.

Thanks, saved to the camper list.

Was taken by the price until I saw they are heavy duty 250lbs, so really not bad on the price, typical is 75-100lbs for the kitchen cupboards.
