I’ve had a busy couple of days. After insulating my walls, I clad the inside with pallet wood.

I then found the best spot for my “icebox” it is actually a Coleman cooler that functions as an icebox.

165977165978

Then I got ambitious as I was sitting in the camper enjoying the cool breeze on my legs and positioned two of my cabinets. The cabinet closest to the door I see my “everything” box that carries my essentials for camping (you know, plate, cup, spoon, humidor, spices, flask, etc.). The skinnier box is one that I just picked up. It will cover my air conditioner which will protrude about 6” out right over the drivers side fender.

Finally after spending a couple of days working on the inside, I fleshed out my bed/ upper floor concept. I am going to go with a tri fold sofa bed, similar to the sofa bed that Vistabule uses. I really like sitting in the front of the camper relaxing after building all day and dangling my feet. Having a 5’ sofa folded during the day, leaving the 5’ standing room opening, seems to be just right. The more I thought about the construction, if I build it right and out of treated lumber, I’ll have a solid “floor” that covers the opening at night and while driving (completely weathertight and secured of course). Then I would just need a removable section in front of my icebox.

The tri folding sofa/bed/upper floor is done. It turned out pretty nice. It is constructed of treated 1x8s supported by 1x4s which glide in the center and outside edges on aluminum strips. It glides quite nicely. I have some finishing touches to do on the front where my legs will go. When it is in bed mode, it will lock to the frame to keep water, dust, and critters out while traveling. I have a 2x2’ area to finish with a removable section that will lock into the bed section. I borrowed some lawn chair cushions to test it out. They are not the final cushions.

Tomorrow, I’ll start tinkering with the icebox area.

Today’s project was an ambitious one. I finished off the inside air conditioner. Naturally, it is slightly larger than advertised. It did fit inside my wooden box though. The outside view is far from finished. I’ll be building a diamond plate box to house it.

Then turned to the removable floor. I already had the folding sofa/bed/floor, so installed the latch to suecure it while traveling. Then I created a removable section that locks between the sofa and the door.

166046166047166048166049

Finally, I completed the rear door.

View from the inside in travel/sleep mode. Edited to add that the interior sleep space is about 4’-9” x 6’-3” or as the wife preferred “ how much elbow room will there be inside”? It also measures 4’-3” from the floor to the ceiling and 6’-3” from the ground to the ceiling. Talk about gaining head room.

I think you did all this last year at a normal pace and are just posting now to make it look like very fast progress. :)

Impressive! At least I'm very impressed at the speed you are moving.

I stained the inside today after taking the camper on a road test. It performed flawlessly. Honestly, I was a lot more concerned about the soft top than the trailer. Both Bestop and Softopper cautioned me about doing something to avoid a catastrophic failure. I did several things to reinforce the frame, then beefed up the front panel. It had no issues. Looks good behind the Jeep. It Sits a bit taller than I hoped, but had no drag issues in the wind. I didn’t even know it was back there.

Here’s a question for you. I was originally planning to paint the whole thing red(except the topper). But the shiny aluminum is starting to grow on me. Plus the complexity of painting it and getting the paint to stick is making me hesitate. My current plan is the paint the corner trim red and leave the panels shiny aluminum. All shiny is too much I think.

Wow, I thought that I had posted more recently. I did a lot of busy work on the Jeemper since my last post. I am taking your advice and keeping the Jeemper shiny aluminum, but still wanted a splash of color. I installed fold-down benches (in case there are no tables present), and the underside seemed like a good spot for color. They are made of trailer ramps. They are about the right size for a bench.

You might also notice in the distant photo, I had cobbled a tarp support. That is a work in progress.

On the inside, I found some cushions for the sofa bed, installed more storage boxes, stained everything, and started adding some necessities.
166149166147166144166143166142

I finished my under floor/ bench storage
166140166141166139

Finally up to this point, I made a fold up arm rest. The board was attached to a bare rafter in the roof of my home in Wisconsin. I believe it is the name of the builder from 1928. The whole inside has a dark wood/brass motif going on.
166146166145

It is now in “campable” condition.

Today, I got the Jeemper weighed so that I can get it titled. It weighs in at 1020 lbs empty. I also have been tinkering with a brass water cooler idea.

I am on vacation and 1000 miles away from the Jeemper. I decided to try something different and make an emblem to attach to the door. It should look like a tire on my Jeep, I found a large copper plate and etched it. I can’t wait to get home and add it to the camper.

I thought that I’d post an update on my Jeemper. I’ve camped in it three times. It has about 500 miles on it. Two of the camping trips have been downpours, it rained the entire drive the first time. In both cases, not a drop got inside. Even with the open floor in “couch mode” at camp, it stays bone dry inside.

The fold down benches have been critical as I have yet to see a picnic table.

With internal bracing on the topper, it pulled down the road at 60mph without issues.

Two of the three camping trips have been at or near freezing. It’s cold at night. I need to get a small heater. I’m thinking propane as only one trip had electricity.

All-in-all, it performed flawlessly. Was roomy and comfortable at night in “bed mode”. Roomy and convenient in “couch mode” during the day. I love it. Thank you tnttt community for the inspiration.

I believe once you click the "YouTube" link in the above menu bar and you paste your YouTube link in place you then remove the portion in yellow (shown in the attached photo (leave the semi colon at beginning of "https"just after "YouTube" and (I think) you remove the slash just before your C2z (etc.). Best to do a preview and make sure this is correct before you post it. That's basically the gist of it.... if that doesn't work try leaving the slash... but the procedure is something like that.
Nice camper!
