Busy weekend! Pre-fit the stargazer windowImagecut into the ceiling panels and installed pick lights, pre wires them to see if there is enough light. Wires up the vent fan, and the reading lights. Image
Image
Started on the rear hatch. Glued the outside pieces together and started cutting the spars in. Image

Image
Pulled it outside for a few pics. She looks pretty wide! Did a little work to the tongue box as well while the spars set up for a few days.

Laying up the countertop for the kitchen this weekend. Image
Also worked on the galley hatch. Not entirely happy with the inner skin install. Also, aggravated as after the inner skin install, I’ve tweaked the hatch somehow and now is a bear to close. I need to add a spar to the bottom or something to “tweak” it back to square.May need to re-skin anyway. My plan for the inner skin is to use 4 inch strips of aluminum on to the outside of the panels and a smaller one in the middle to cover the seam. Image

That will be a great looking countertop for the galley.
As for the hatch being out of square, I believe it was because from a previous pic in your log,
there was no bracing between the spars and attached to the struts, that could have prevented it from going out of square. IMHO
On mine I used 2 ribs in the center and small corner blocks to help with keeping it square. Then of course the light boxes and license plate bracket helped.
Every part of the structure helped the other part.

Thank you. I was thinking I’d need to do some more bracing, at least to get it back to square.

Indiana Rambler

Postby Indiana Rambler » Wed Mar 30, 2022 4:31 am

Just thought I’d post since We’ve been away a little while. Some more progress! Image
Image
Was able to layup and install the 1/2 butcher block countertop this last weekend. It is backed by the 1/2 plywood backer. Turned out pretty nice. Image
Image
Image
Finally bit the bullet and wired up all the interior switches and panel plates. Made a home for the Max Air vent fan remote. Cleaned up all the wires at the front of the camper to the tongue box. 12 volt circuits all ran to components or would be components, 110 volt wiring ran too. Now all we need is the solar panel leads and we should be about ready to skin the top of the camper, after we finish cutting and installing the insulation. Image

Plumbed the water tank last evening. Looks a bit messy but will clean it up a bit. Two shutoffs for tank delivery and full hookup. Now we will go back and fix up everything. Hardest part was drilling a hole through the floor of the galley to get the water hose up to the pump! Yikes! I’m afraid of water intrusion and have been very careful to add polyurethane and resin where I think it’s needed.

You're quite the craftsman.

Did you use a stain on the interior? What's the interior wall plywood?

Thanks Tony. That means a lot coming from you! The interior wall is a red oak that we polyurethaned. The back wall is birch. The ceiling is a red oak plywood. We used no stain. This is the first BIG wood project I’ve ever tackled. I’ve even amazed myself at some points. Few of them, most times I’ve been like what the heck did I just do!

Stay amazed with yourself, you did just do it. :applause:

And I agree as tony wrote

Red oak as always been one of my favorite woods. As a master cabinet maker for years. I have used it a lot. Most of the time sealing clear. Makes the grain just pop. As in your build. Great job, and still watching..
