Apologies in advance for posting a non trailer build. I did construct a tiny travel trailer a number of years ago and posted that build back then. Any way this time decided to make a tiny camper van so it seems fitting. My van chosen for my build is the Astro van. A good compromise for an easy to drive and park choice. My blank slate is the cargo van. You can see the Fantastic vent fan is already installed in the roof.

Cutting the hole in the roof is kind of freaky.

With the vent fan installed I need a house battery and a method of charging that battery. I mounted the battery along with a battery isolator so that the cars alternator charges this battery.

Next I need to insulate the roof and sides before ceiling and walls can go up.


The pink foam needs to be tapered to fit in the recesses.

The walls are made from luan which I pickled white and poly urethaned.

To the rear of the van I need to fabricate a valance to finish off how the wall meets the ceiling. I have decided to put LED accent lights in these.


So I kerfed some luan to bend to a conforming shape

After installing the sub floor I need to fabricate a shelf storage element that covers the wheel well and the jack. I have decided I want open clothing hanging so this is my solution:

after an accent staining of the storage unit its time to work on the couch/bed unit. The plan is a goucho that hinges on top to access the storage below

the house battery is located behind the drivers seat. A storage unit is built around.



It is then stained and finished

Flooring is installed and I sewed covers for the mattress. Note the storage below the couch

When the bed is in the extended mode it is just a few inches shy of a queen-sized bed
