In two weeks time we will go on our first camping trip with the Teardrop. So last Friday we picked her up at the storage facility and parked it in our backyard. I was planning to do some final tinkering but due to heavy rainstorms that was postponed.

Unfortunately it turned out we had a leak… at the hurricane hinge…. Off course… turns out I just didn’t use enough butyl tape on the bottom of the hinge so there was a small gap. Easy fix and that withstood all the rain in the days thereafter.

Yesterday the weather was good enough to do some small stuff. I installed a set of magnets that will hold the doors open.

Perfect solution. Holds the doors perfectly and causes little stress on the walls.

I also installed the stove and am very happy with the way the drawer pulls out without interference from the hose.

Can’t wait to go camping! So we bought some plates and glasses (plastic). Now just to find a way to transport them without them flying around in the galley.

Looks great! I recommend installing a fuse on the battery main.

Zoom in on the battery and the lead cable…. There you will see a rubber block that holds the main fuse.

M&M's Droppie

Postby TallGuy7 » Fri Apr 14, 2023 1:48 pm

Today it was finally time for the shakedown of M&M’s Droppie. We drove over 200km to see what range my EV has with the teardrop on the towbar.

Normally she does 450km before it’s time to recharge, but it is still quite cold so that’s 380km now. With droppie on the towbar the range drops to 300km, way more than expected!

We booked at a small camping. Arrived and in no time the drop was level and the awning installed. Now it’s time to relax with a gin and tonic.

Today I finally took the time to do some small things that were still on the to-do list.

Fabricated the covers for the electrical wiring and tail lights

Also fabricated the covers for the internal wiring in the cabin.

I just painted them and I will fit these covers tomorrow. Then there is only one thing left to do and that’s enjoy our trips!

After three trial weekends a four week trip to Italy is up next! Tuscany, Amalfi coast and the Adriatic seaside. Can’t wait for the adventure to start. It’s going to be a challenge to do this trip with an EV towing a teardrop, but I am confident we will manage.

I'm impressed. You're getting very good range with that tow.

Our setup in the Black Forest in Germany. She towed like a dream. The Mach E effortlessly towed her over here and the mileage was better than expected.
