Postby Mloves2camp » Tue May 01, 2012 10:18 am

Found this for sale on ebay, but here is their website: http://nesteggtrailers.com/trailers/sink.html

Pretty cool little TD. 8.5', 700 lbs. The buy it now price on ebay is $8,250

Sorry for the long url! I haven't had enough coffee to recall how to do it the other way. Maybe I need more sleep, is it nap time yet? 8)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NestEgg- ... 27c683aeec

Notice the little round thing at the end of the bed? What pray tell is it? A vent of some sort?

The molded in cooler is kinda cool, but I wonder if it would sweat on the inside. Hope they have it well insulated.

Enjoy the looksie!

Very intriguing, especially since it's local to me. Often wondered why there weren't more fiberglass teardrops.

The icebox is quite interesting, though I think a cooler would be more versatile.

Still, for that kind of money, I could get an established brand like Little Guy (for less) or a So Cal Teardrop (for a bit more)! They will need to bring the price point down quite a bit to get market share.

I don't think it's that out of line, considering it'll last a long time with virtually no upkeep. I'd rather pay a bit more & have something last. Plus, the weight savings is a good thing. Maybe their motto could be like a 'Vette - wrap yer a** in fiberglass! LOL I too wonder why there aren't more fiberglass tears. Wish they weren't out on the coast, that's a long distance to ship to St. Louis! Hey - wonder how it holds up to hail? (that monster hail storm just blew through here, leaving our cars with some small dents, a cracked windshield & we're going to need a new roof. Thank heaven for insurance!) Anyone know how fiberglass holds up to hail? I'd appreciate knowing, for future reference. It happens here a lot! Oh hail!

I agree with you on the cooler. I'd rather have my own set up & not commit that space to one thing only. Of course, it could just be a nice storage area. Nobody said you had to put ice in there, right? Beings there's no upper cabinets, I'd use it for kitchen storage. Too bad it's so far & we just bought a TD, or I'd seriously consider it. I'll post some pics of our TD next week when it arrives, can't wait!

I looked through the web site and while I approve of the concept there appears to be no battery or provision for one or converter or... The ice box lacks as pointed out flexibility to use a chest. One of the problems is that price is probably where it should be to make money.
This strikes me to be like a LG, crying to be modified but the composites could make that difficult and there is not enough information on the site to know.
This is also a great example of why I would prefer that links open up a new page as you can not get back into T&TTT at least from Fire Fox.

I just right click the link and then "open link in new tab"

The placement of the sink makes it almost useless. You would have to sit on the ground to use it, at least that is how it appears in the photos. I'm not fond of the built-in ice chest, but I suppose they could change that for people. I do like the looks of it, and that it is made of fiberglass.

Wow, I didn't realize that about the sink, you're right. Maybe it's for the vertically challenged?

Yes, it has to have a battery, they did say they could customize it for you & that's one they'd have to do.

Don't like those big 'icons' on the back, either. Looks like you're pulling a rolling advertisement. I hate when companies do that to stuff. It's bad enough with cars - my brother in law says that we should get $ off a car when we're driving around with the dealership's logo - he has a point! Ever see those rental motor homes? It blaringly announces you're driving a rental, kinda embarassing if you ask me.

I too right click on stuff. Makes things much more simple.

Yes, the best thing about it is it's fiberglass. Still want to know how it holds up to hail!

I recently sold a 1962 Glasspar boat that's been in our family since 1973 -- most of that time sitting out in a field with no cover on it. Other than being a bit faded, it was as solid as the day it was sold. As for hail, I can't imagine it would do significant damage, those fiberglass finishes are very tough. Look at Casita/Scamp/Burro trailers -- they are all fiberglass, and seem indestructible.

But that's also the down side -- if you want to modify it, good luck.

Virtually indestructible, that's good if you live here! I do know that a pit bull can eat a fiberglass running board! LOL The guy I bought mine from actually had a dog take a bite out of it. Any big dog if mad enough could probably do the same. Other than that, sounds good! For sure, you'd have to buy one that you don't want to change. We'd call that a PITA...unless one is an autobody repair person who works with fiberglass. I'm fresh out of those here!

Looks interesting but the GVWR is 1000lbs [axle rating] and the trailer unit
itself is @ 700lbs. That only leaves 300lbs for equipment. I
don't know if that is reasonable or not - perhaps there is built
in reserve for exceeding the GVWR ?

Cheers,

It's a 'deck plate' from a boat - you put a finger in each of the two holes and you can unscrew it a quarter turn to remove it. My guess is that it's the maintenance (and installation) access to the drain fittings under the sink (and icebox?).

I don't see any claim in the manufacturer's info that it is fiberglass. It states that it is made from a composite material which could certainly be something other than fiberglass. I don't know what it is.

I wrote them asking if it was fiberglass?

I got a very fast response (under 5 minutes)

"Fiberglass and honeycomb composites. For strength and lightweight."

It sure has some smooth lines.
The ice box is a good use of space.
The sink is a bit low, but for those who claim a sink is a waste, it is probably perfect ;)
No seams, no wood, sounds like a good start...

Thank you, Angib, I'd have never known that one. I'm more familiar with an aluminum jonboat or canoe. Makes sense, thanks!

I will still garage it if you can. You can only buff and polish oxidation out of fiberglass so many times depending on the thickness. Don't take this to a car wash stall or use car wash soap on it. Don't ask me how I know this.

Hi all, I spoke with Vince today. He builds these little nesteggs. And, here are a few things that I found out. It is fiberglass and honeycomb composite. The axle is a 1000 lbs. stock, but 1500 and 2000 are also available. The batteries (for lights and pump) on board are solar powered with replaceable cell battery backup capabilities. We spoke of so many things and the bottom line is, and I quote, "if you can think it up, I can make it happen". He was so accomodating and definately a "can do" kinda guy. He is working me up a quote and I am hoping and praying it is in my price range because I think I am in love. Here's to dreaming!!!! :worship:
